Current Status of Initiatives For a 2007-2008 timeline, proposal forms, and supporting documents, please select the link in the lefthand navigation pane: “Proposal Forms and Documents.” IDIS 150 (First-Year FSU Colloquium) will reach full implementation and will become a required course for all students entering under the fall 2007 catalog. All three Colleges will be responsible for providing IDIS sections. The Capstone Experience will be fully implemented for students entering FSU under the 2007 undergraduate catalog. Departments should be prepared to submit their capstone experience proposals to the University Undergraduate Curriculum Requirements Sub-Committee (UUCR) if an existing course is being re-tooled or refined. If a new course is being created, it must go through standard channels (i.e., College curriculum committees, Faculty Senate sub-committees) for approval. Three-credit science courses—both disciplinary and interdisciplinary—will be recruited to supplement our new course: Science, Technology, and Society (IDIS 160). An ad hoc committee has been convened to make recommendations to Deans’ Council and Faculty Senate regarding guidelines that will allow other existing or new three-credit science courses that include an hands-on component to be included in the general education program. These guidelines will be based on faculty experiences of teaching IDIS 160 for the past year. IDIS 350 (Advanced FSU Colloquium) will continue as a pilot project through spring 2009, with full implementation scheduled for the 2009-2011 catalog. Pilot courses will still be recruited over the next three years, thus allowing ample time to fully implement the first phase of our interdisciplinary coursework in general education (IDIS 150) while also refining our concept of IDIS 350. Identity and Difference course proposals are still being actively recruited for inclusion in the 2007-2009 catalog. Writing- and speaking-intensive courses
(WI & SI) and their implementation are now postponed until the
2009 catalog. An ad hoc committee will be formed this fall to consider
redefining this requirement from a course-based concept to a program-based
concept and give programs greater latitude in defining what methods
will work best for them to meet broad university criteria.
