FSU Renewable Energy Center has been developing wind and solar powered supply systems to provide continuous electricity for mission-critical infrastructures if the utility grid becomes unavailable for a long period due to a natural disaster or a nuclear weapon detonated at a high altitude.
The experimental prototype is powered by a 1-kW wind turbine and nine solar modules each rated 205-W. Battery and hydrogen storage s used to provide continuous power despite daily or seasonal veriations of the solar radiation and wind speed.
