Design, Instalation, and Maintenance of Residential PV and Wind Generation Systems

Frostburg State University is offering an education program on design, installation, and maintenance of residential electric generation systems using photovoltaic (PV) solar modules and/or small wind turbines.

8-week online course supported by on-site 3-day instruction and hands-on training will prepare the participants for entry level certification tests of the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP). In addition, participants will learn the fundamentals of residential wind generation stems..

During every week of the online part, instructional materials will be posted on the course web site. The participants will have the flexibility to review the course materials and check their understanding at their own pace and schedule.A 3-day hands-on instruction and training will be held in the Compton Science Center at Frostburg State University

Online registration

Participants will learn from experts:

  • The basics of PV/wind systems and resource assessment Components of a PV/wind systems, setup configuration, sizing, wiring and controls,
  • Relevant sections of the National Electric Code (NEC), zoning laws and building codes pertaining to PV/wind systems, interconnection requirements,
  • Practical experiments and demonstrations of different aspects of PV/wind generation systems including a site visit to FSU WISE system and actual hands on set up of a small grid connected system
