Concentrations - Adventure Sports
The Adventure Sports Concentration is
a collaborative program with Garrett College in Western Maryland. There
are few programs like it in the country. Students may complete the program
by entering the program at Frostburg and taking courses to complete the
concentration at Garrett or enter Garrett directly and transfer to Frostburg
after completing their program. Many students consider the Adventure Sports
program for the following reasons:
- The program has received national attention for its
innovative program. One important component of its innovative program
is its collaboration with Frostburg and the ability of Recreation and
Parks Management majors to incorporate adventure sports as an integral
part of its program. More than twenty Frostburg students are completing
the Garrett Program.
- The program at Garrett has three full-time faculty.
In addition, the program brings back into the classroom practitioners
who are specialists in their outdoor discipline.
- Frostburg students can earn a concentration
in Adventure Sports from Frostburg State University. Many students transfer
or "reverse articulate" their Frostburg general
education classes to Garrett and earn an AAS degree
from Garrett in Adventuresports. Ask us about this program.
- Adventure Sports is a Common Market Program
for many states. For example, students from Virginia can enroll in the
Adventure Sports program at Frostburg and receive in-county
tuition for their courses at Garrett. This offers considerable
savings for out-of-state students. Again, ask about this program.
- The program emphasizes experiential learning and
practical experiences.
- Garrett is committed to making the Adventure Sports
Program a quality program. It is one of their President's
"signature programs."
