College towns have always spawned college bands, and Frostburg is no exception. From the loud fast rock and roll of Sonic Mule, to the folksy reverie of Eric and Dhru; from the heavy metal of Eyes of Day to the indie-pop of The Royal Army Recording Company; from the bluegrass of Miller's Wheel to the industrial edginess of The Christmas Lights, Frostburg has a thriving independent music scene. The Savage Mountain Garage Band program aims to have you be a part of that scene. Attending students will form bands and work with successful area musicians-getting one-on-one training in instruments, getting rehearsal time with a full band, and honing the musical and communication skills necessary for being in a successful performing rock band. Being in a band is more than just playing an instrument though. Choosing a name, developing a logo, working on a band bio, even developing a Myspace page is all part of the program. Students will also learn about song structure and lyric writing, about the history of popular music in the US, and about the finer points of being a working musician. You will also enjoy an open air concert one evening featuring a variety of faculty bands. So pack
up your guitars, your basses, your drum sticks and come out to the mountain.
