FSU is in the process of implementing a university-wide Action Plan developed annually beginning in 2009. The Action Plan will serve two purposes for university planning units:
The revised strategic plan calls for greater transparency and engagement from the broader campus community. The development of an annual Action Plan will involve bottom-up as well as top-down communication. Background - Details into the implementation of the first annual Action Plan are still in development. The following information will provide insight into what is known at this time: 1. Identification of Planning Units - A planning unit is a division, college, office, department, or other entity that has a specific function and is supported by institutional budgets. FSU planning units were identified in spring 2009 through a series of meetings. All FSU constituents are represented in one or more planning units. Each planning unit is charged with completing and submitting a Strategic Direction Form every spring. The completed form will identify those strategic directions that will be a priority focus for the planning unit, and the action items that are tied to those strategic directions. 2. Development of Action Items - The process of implementation begins with the development of action items that are tied to current strategic directions. An action item is a deliberate act taken to fulfill one or more strategic directions. In fall 2008, the SPT developed a list of Potential Action Items for informational purposes. 3. Development of Action Priorities - The Office of Planning & Assessment will consolidate planning units' action items into a list of proposed action items. This list will guide the development of Action Priorities, which are broad institutional strategies and actions that can be harnessed by multiple planning units. 4. Development of Annual Action Plan - The annual action plan will contain a list of Institutional action priorities that can be harnessed by multiple planning units. It will also list approved action items developed at the planning unit level. Subsequent annual plans will provide updates on progress in meeting these actions and strategies.
