What exactly are you looking for, in terms of content?

The organizers and judges of Frostburg: Take 5 are looking for clips that express your take on why Frostburg is a great place to go to college. We’re interested in videos that show you having fun, being involved on campus, spending time with your friends, hiking and biking. Give us videos that highlight the beauty of the campus and the surrounding scenery, residence life activities, athletics, student-oriented events, academic experiences—basically, help us express to the rest of the world why Frostburg State University is a unique and wonderful place to spend the best years of your life and get your degree.

I’ve already graduated and am now an alum … can I still participate?

Absolutely. Pull out those old photos or videos and make something good, or even drive up to the Frostburg campus and reminisce. Wax nostalgic as much as you want. Think about what made your time at Frostburg really special, and then tell us about it in a cool clip.

Does the video have to be animated or can I use images as stills?

We are excited to see both animated, moving videos and videos created with still photographs. Creating a collage of still images is just fine.

Do I need to include shots of the Frostburg State University campus?

Not necessarily, but you do need to connect what you create to Frostburg State University somehow. Your video needs to make it clear it is about Frostburg in some form or fashion.

I want to use music by my favorite band. Is that okay?

Every part of your video needs to be your original creation, including music. We know you’ve got the creativity to make that happen. However, if you are dead set on using music by a popular recording artist, you need to request permission from the record label. Fill out this form to show us you have requested permission for the music you’re using.

If you decide to use music by a recording artist in your video, you must submit this form to participate in the contest.

OR consider creating your own royalty free music for your Take 5 Projects by using the GarageBand software and music loops (these programs are already installed on the computers in the MAC Lab in Pullen Hall Room 105 here on campus). You may broadcast and/or distribute your own music compositions or audio projects that were created using the Audio Content, too.

What about puppets, cartoons, drawings?

You can get as creative as you want in how you tell your stories and express your sentiments. Just make sure it ties into Frostburg somehow, and illuminates why you enjoy(ed) being at the University.

How will I know if I’ve won?

We will reveal the Top Five Winners at a special screening at 6:30 p.m. April 29 in Dunkle 218 on the FSU campus.

I’m still wondering what kind of video I should make. Can you give me some suggestions?

Show us a moment (or series of moments) you experienced that really made you happy and excited about being at Frostburg State University, or make up a skit that illuminates some grain of truth about the possibilities Frostburg offers. We’ve got some special things happening at the University: Lifelong friendships, beautiful scenery, sports teams with a lot of heart, great community service events, small classes, tons of student organizations doing good stuff. Tell us your story.
