Designed to help teachers across the
state to gain physics content area knowledge, develop their teaching
strategies, integrate instructional technology, and attain "Highly
Qualified" status.
Modeled after the nationally-proven
successful program of the Physics Teaching Resource Agents (PTRA) developed
by the American Assocation of Physics Teachers (AAPT).
The project will support a cohort
of 30 Teacher Scholars for sustained professional development, using
the curriculum developed by the AAPT.
Instruction will be given in an intensive
6-day summer institute at FSU, to be held June 27-July 3, 2010. This
will include daylong workshops, as well as evening educational and mentoring
activities.
Two weekend follow-up meetings will
be held over 18 months at the participating school districts. This allows
participants to share experiences of how they are implementing workshop
activities in the classroom. In addition, there will be four online sessions
required.
Teacher Scholars receive room and
board for the summer institute, travel reimbursement, child care reimbursement, and your choice
of either a stipend ($100 for first-year participants, $125 for the second
year, and $150 for third or fourth-year participants) OR full tuition remission
for up to three FSU graduate physics credits.
