Loans - Plus Loans If you are the parent of a returning FSU student and have borrowed a Parent PLUS Loan for that student in the past, please click here. If you are a parent applying for a Parent PLUS Loan at FSU for the first time, there are two steps you must complete in order to secure a Parent PLUS Loan. Please read the following information carefully. Step 1: Choose a lender Frostburg State University has developed a working relationship with the lenders listed in the link below. We established this list to help parents and students make sense of all the loan information that is available. All of the lenders listed are processed by FSU via an electronic process, making the certification and delivery of loans seamless. We select our recommended lenders based on the payment of the default fee, the attractiveness of borrower benefits, and the quality of service offered to our parents and students. Please keep in mind
that you are in no way obligated to use one of these lenders.
If you decide to use another lender, please contact that
lender to make sure they send our office a certification request
so that we can complete the loan process in a timely manner.
Step 2: Complete the PLUS Loan Pre-Approval and Master Promissory Note (MPN) Once you have reviewed the lender information, please follow the instructions to complete the PLUS Loan Pre-Approval process and sign the Master Promissory Note (MPN) for your loan. Once you have signed in, you will need to click on the tab titled "Parent PLUS" before you compare lenders. After you have chosen your lender, you will be asked to create an account at our PLUS Pre-Approval site. PLEASE keep your username and password for future use. All borrowers have the right to cancel or reduce the amount of their awarded loan by contacting the Financial Aid Office at any time. If you are a parent who has already begun the loan application process and needs to finish completing a single step of the required processes, please select the link below to gain access to a specific part of the loan processes.
If you have previously borrowed a Parent PLUS loan at FSU, and are choosing to remain with the same lender, you do not need to sign another MPN; however, you must complete the PLUS Loan Pre-Approval. FSU's school code is required in order to log into the PLUS Loan Pre-Approval website, and every parent who selects the link below will be prompted to enter this information. FSU's school code is 00207200.
If you chose to borrow through a lender the previous year that is NOT one of FSU's recommended lenders, then you must complete the pre-approval process with the lender you have chosen and have the results of that pre-approval forwarded to our office via fax or regular mail. All borrowers have the right to cancel or reduce the amount of their awarded loan by contacting the Financial Aid Office at any time.
