Allegany Garrett Sportsman Association Scholarship

Criteria: Recipient(s) must be a sophomore, junior or senior with a declared major in wildlife & fisheries. A student with a declared major in ethnobotany can be a recipient if no wildlife and fisheries student is eligible. Additional majors may be added in the future if approved by the Donor. Applicants must demonstrate an interest in the promotion and preservation of sport hunting and fishing in the State of Maryland as shown by membership in a hunting or fishing sportsman organization, as holder of a valid hunting and or fishing license or by another method as determined by the Awards Committee to validate the same interest. Applicants must be a full-time student or accepted for enrollment with an overall grade point average of 2.5 or better. Preference in order of importance: Renewal Applicants-Awards may be received for two consecutive years of undergraduate studies if an overall grade point average of 2.5 or better is maintained. In the event of equally qualified applicants a preference will be given to those who can demonstrate an interest in the promotion and preservation of sport hunting and fishing in the State of Maryland as shown by membership in a hunting or fishing sportsman organization or holder of valid hunting and or fishing license or by method as determined by the Awards Committee to validate the same interest. First preference will be given to applicants graduating from a high school in Allegany County or Garrett County of Maryland followed by applicants who are graduates from high schools in Maryland followed by applicants who are graduates from high schools out-of-state. The recipient will be recognized as an honorary member of the Allegany and Garrett Sportsman Association and is expected to attend meetings as requested.

Roscoe Bartlett Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a full-time student with a declared major in math/biology/chemistry/ physics or engineering and a resident of the Sixth Congressional District (Allegany, Carroll, Frederick, Garrett, Howard or Washington counties of Maryland). The applicant must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or above and a 3.5 GPA in the major. A preference is given to renewal applicants. Demonstrated need may be a determining factor.

Borden Mining Company Scholarship - In Honor of Albert and Elizabeth Borden

Criteria: Applicants must be a full-time graduate or undergraduate student, 3.0 grade point average with a declared major one of the following: biology, chemistry, geography, physics or engineering. Applicants must have demonstrated interest in research projects as shown by previous scholarship or research or membership or by avocation. A preference is given to projects associated with mining concerns including but not limited to reclamation, water quality, wildlife and environmental planning. Preference given to a Frostburg resident, defined as residing in the 21532 zip code area. The award may be received for two consecutive years.
