Criteria: The recipient must be a graduate of an Allegany County high
school in Maryland, a declared education major and a full-time student.
The recipient may be a junior or senior. An overall FSU grade point
average of 3.0 or above is required, as is an essay on "Why Education
is My Career Choice."

Criteria: The recipient must be a junior or senior full-time education
major and a graduate of an Allegany County, MD, high school with a minimum
cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

Criteria: Applicants must be enrolled full-time at FSU with a declared
undergraduate major in education. Recipients must have at least a 3.0

Criteria: The recipient must be an educational professions major with
a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average and be a graduate of a
Washington County, MD, high school. Need may be a determining factor.

Criteria: The recipient must be a full-time, upper division educational
professions major in the student teaching internship sequence. Need

Fell Social Studies Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a junior or senior social science teacher
education major, admitted to Phase II, overall grade point average of
3.25, with a grade point average in content major of 3.25. Applicants
must submit one recommendation from content area teacher and one recommendation
from professional education sequence teacher at FSU or from transfer
institution. Alternate criteria if the above is not met: accepted into
MAT program for secondary social studies with an overall grade point
average of 3.25 and a grade point average in content major of 3.25 OR
elementary/middle school undergraduate, admitted to Phase II, social
studies concentration, overall grade point average of 3.25 and a grade
point average in content major of 3.25.

Shannon Anne Forrester Memorial Scholarship
Department/Contact: The recipient must be an FSU student who is a resident
of Garrett County with a declared major in either special education
or elementary education with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, with a
declared intent to teach two years in Garrett, Allegany, or Washington
County, or elsewhere in the state of Maryland.

Hilda Holt Gellner Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in
elementary education or other programs as developed by the University
for similar studies in the future or a graduate student pursing a master's
degree in education with an undergraduate degree in elementary education
or other program as developed by the University for similar studies
in the future.. The recipient(s) must have an FSU overall grade point
average of 3.0 or better and have graduated from a high school in Allegany
County, Maryland. Preference given to a junior or senior. The award
may be received for two consecutive years.

Nancy Ginder Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a junior education major with a minimum
cumulative grade point average of 3.25. Demonstrated ability in education
courses 201 and 202 is required. The recipient must complete Phase 1
by end of the spring semester.

James Graham Award

Criteria: The recipient must have at least sophomore standing at time
of application and be an education major with a grade point average
of 3.4 or above. Demonstrated service to the University and/or community
is required.

Walter and Elmyra Hahn Frederick County Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient(s) must be a graduate of a Frederick County,
MD, high school and be a junior or senior at Frostburg State University
with a declared major in teacher education or other programs as developed
by the University for similar studies in the future. Applicants must
be accepted at FSU and have an overall FSU grade point average of 3.0
or better. The award may be received for two consecutive years if an
overall grade point average of 3.0 or better is maintained. A preference
will be given to applicants who have demonstrated an intent to teach
in elementary or early childhood settings as demonstrated by declared
major or research.

Hedrick Teacher Excellence Award for Math/Science

Criteria: The recipient must be a declared education major (secondary,
K-12) who has completed at least three upper-level mathematics or science
classes with a major or concentration (24-hour specialization) in mathematics
or physical science. Students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Teaching
(MAT) program are eligible to apply. A cumulative grade point average
of 3.0 or above is required. Preference is given to non-traditional
students and to applicants with demonstrated financial need.

Nellie Hilton - Eta Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarship

is a resident of Allegany County, MD, and carries a minimum cumulative
grade point average of 3.5.

Jimmy Hollis Education Scholarship

Criteria: Recipient(s) must be a senior at FSU with a declared major
in education
with a concentration in science or other programs as developed by the
University for similar studies in the future. It is the donors
intent to
support a student teacher who may be incurring additional costs as
a result of the student teaching assignment. Applicants must have
demonstrated interest in one or more of the following components of
science education: biology, wildlife, environmental science or outdoor
education as shown by previous scholarship, research, membership or
avocation. Applicants must be accepted at FSU or be enrolled with
an overall grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Donald P. Hutchinson Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a graduate of a high school in Allegany,
Garrett or Washington counties, with a declared intent to teach two
years in one of these counties or elsewhere in the state of Maryland.
The recipient may be junior or senior, carrying an overall FSU G.P.A.
of 3.0 or above. Applicants must submit a 500-word essay on "How
I Would Improve the Delivery of Education in Western Maryland."

junior or senior with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. Seniors must
have a GPA of 2.8 or above in all education courses. Need may be a determining

of an Allegany County, MD, high school, with a minimum cumulative grade
point average of 3.0. Applicants should show participation in extra-curricular
activities and community service. Preference will be given to renewal
applicants.

Llewellyn/Sigler Scholarship

Criteria: Recipient(s) must be a graduate of an Allegany County public
high school with junior or senior class status as a secondary education
major or a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) student with demonstrated
teaching in secondary education or K-12 major or a major in a program
benefiting secondary education careers in similar studies as developed
by the university. Recipients must have demonstrated academic ability
with an overall grade point average of 3.0 or better and be representative
of the educational professions program. Preference of recipients in
order of importance: (1) renewal applicants with an overall grade point
of 3.0 or better. Award may be renewed one time; (2) secondary education
major, followed by Master of Arts in Teaching graduate student with
demonstrated teaching in secondary education, followed by K-12 major
or a student in similar program (major) as developed in the future by
the University.

Alma Logsdon Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a senior education major with a minimum
3.5 grade point average and a concentration in early childhood/elementary
education, elementary education or other education programs as developed
by the University for similar studies in the future. Applicants must
have a demonstrated desire to pursue a career in elementary education
through previous scholarship, research, membership or avocation. Preference
will be given to applicants with demonstrated academic ability.

Ethel Hollinger Malchenson Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a full-time graduate or undergraduate
educational professions major who graduated from a high school in Washington
or Frederick counties in Maryland or adjoining counties in Pennsylvania.
A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 is required. Preference
will be given to renewal applicants.

Scholarship

Criteria: Recipient(s) must be a declared education major in elementary
education
pursuing an undergraduate degree or an elementary education
major pursuing a graduate education degree. Applicants must have a
demonstrated interest in elementary education as shown by previous
scholarship or reseach or membership or by avocation. Undergraduate
applicants must be enrolled or accepted to be enrolled full time at
FSU with an overall grade point average of 3.0 or better. Graduate
applicants must be enrolled for at least 6 credits and have attained
an undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or better. Preferences
are: (1) renewal applicants - graduate or undergraduate awards may
be received for two consecutive years if an overall grade point average
of 3.0 or better is maintained and (2) in the event of equally qualified
applicants, a preference will be given to those with demonstrated
academic ability.

Amy and Martha Meek Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a junior education major and a graduate
of an Allegany County, MD, high school, with a minimum cumulative grade
point average of 3.0. Applicants should show participation in extra-curricular
activities and community service. Preference will be given to renewal
applicants and graduates of Mountain Ridge High School. The scholarship
may be renewed.

Dr. Norman W. Nightingale Scholarship

Criteria: The intent of the award is to support a full-time education
major in the final year of undergraduate study who has completed requirements
for entrance into the "Phase III" of teacher education and
has an FSU overall grade point average of 3.0 or better. Applicants
must have residency from the Maryland counties of Washington, Allegany
and Garrett or the contiguous counties defined by FSU as Berkeley, Grant,
Hampshire, Jefferson, Mineral and Morgan in West Virginia; Bedford,
Fulton, Franklin and Somerset in Pennsylvania; and Loudoun County, Virginia.
The recipient must have demonstrated interest in the field of education
as shown by previous scholarship, research, membership or by avocation.
In the event of equally qualified applicants a preference will be given
to demonstrated academic ability.

Mary T. Lascaris Slider Memorial Undergraduate Reading
Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be an education major with a demonstrated
interest in the field of reading as shown by previous research or avocation.
Preference will be given to graduates of Southern and Northern High
Schools or residents of Garrett County, MD, and to members of the Western
Maryland Reading Council.

Twylah Murphy Stewart Scholarship

Criteria: Applicants must be a full-time senior at FSU with a declared
major in elementary education. They must be a resident of either Allegany
or Garrett County, MD, with demonstrated financial need and demonstrated
interest in elementary education as shown by previous scholarship or
research or membership or by avocation. The recipient(s) must have an
FSU overall grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Eleanor Porter Tennant Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a declared education major in elementary
education pursuing an undergraduate degree, full-time, or an elementary
education major pursuing a graduate education degree, enrolled for six
hours or more, or other programs as developed by the University for
similar undergraduate or graduate studies in the future. Applicants
must have an overall grade point average of 3.0 or better with demonstrated
interest in elementary education as shown by previous scholarship, research,
membership or avocation. Preference is given to renewal applicants,
and the award may be received for two consecutive years. In the event
of equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to applicants
with demonstrated academic ability.

declared major in elementary education with an overall grade point average
of 3.0 or better. Applicants must have demonstrated interest in elementary
education as shown by previous scholarship, research, membership, or
by avocation. Preference given to residents of Allegany, Garrett, or
Washington counties. Awards may be received for two consecutive years
if any overall grade point average of 3.0 or better is maintained. In
the event of equally qualified applicants, preference will be given
to applicants with demonstrated financial need and academic ability.

Ida B. Wells Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a full-time junior education major with
a cumulative FSU grade point average of 2.6 or above and a 2.8 grade
point average in education. Also required is a demonstrated commitment
to work in an economically depressed and/or inner-city area upon graduation.
Need may be a determining factor.
