Institutional Scholarships
Students must apply for the following scholarships
by completing the Scholarship Application form at the back of this booklet.
An essay must also be attached to the Scholarship Application.
See instructions with the Scholarship Application for essay details.
In addition, some scholarships may require supplemental documentation
to be submitted with the Scholarship Application and essay.
Allegany County Association for Family and
Community Education (Homemakers Award)

Criteria: The recipient must be a graduate of a high school in Allegany
County, Maryland, with a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Preference
will be given to 4-H Club members and members or direct descendants
of members of the Allegany County Association for Family and Community
Education (formerly the Homemakers Club). A transfer student will be
eligible upon completing 59 or more hours of college level credit (junior
class standing) and being enrolled or accepted at FSU with an overall
FSU grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Allegany Garrett Sportsman Association Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a junior or senior with a declared major
in biology, earth science, environmental analysis & planning or
wildlife & fisheries with an overall grade point average of 2.5
or better.. Preference will be given to applicants graduating from a
high school in Allegany or Garrett counties in Maryland, then to graduates
from Maryland high schools, then to graduates from out-of-state high
schools, then to out-of-state applicants. The applicant must demonstrate
an interest in the promotion and preservation of sport hunting and fishing
in the state of Maryland as shown by membership in a hunting or fishing
sportsman organization, as holder of a valid hunting and or fishing
license or by another method as determined by the awards committee.
Applications are reviewed by the Allegany and Garrett Sportsman Association.
Awards may be received for two consecutive years of undergraduate studies
if an overall grade point average of 2.5 or better is maintained.

Jonathan T. Alloy Thriving Scholar Award

Criteria: This award is intended to benefit students who have demonstrated
academic success and extracurricular leadership while attending Frostburg
State University, but have not previously received an award based on
merit. Applicants must be enrolled full-time at FSU, show demonstrated
academic improvement in his/her grade point average since entering FSU
as a freshman to the rising senior year. The recipient(s) must be a
senior and have an FSU overall grade point average of 3.0 or better,
have demonstrated extracurricular leadership, and have not previously
received a merit-based scholarship award. In the event of equally qualified
applicants, a preference will be given to applicants who have most consistently
improved while attending Frostburg State University. The award is not
renewable.

Alumni Association Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a sophomore who is a descendant or dependent
of an FSU alumnus as recorded by the Alumni Office. Demonstrated involvement
in community affairs and/or campus organizations and a cumulative grade
point average of 3.0 or above are also required. Need may be a determining
factor.

American Association of University Women
Frostburg Branch Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a sophomore or above with at least 30
credits (transfer students can apply) and an FSU grade point average
of 3.25 or above. Preference will be given to female students from the
Frostburg area with demonstrated ability and participation in leadership
activities and financial need.

American Legion Patriotism Award - Farrady Post No.
24

Criteria: The recipient must be a dependent or descendant of a member
in good standing of Farrady Post 24 American Legion with a minimum 2.7
grade point average and a declared major in any of the following: accounting,
biology, business administration, chemistry, computer science, economics,
education, environmental analysis and planning, foreign languages, general
science, geography, history, international studies, law and society
(justice studies), mathematics, physics, political science or wildlife/fisheries.

Paul E. and Betty J. Barry Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must have an FSU grade point average of 3.0
or better or be accepted as a new student at FSU with demonstrated academic
ability. Preference will be given to Frostburg residents and to applicants
who have demonstrated participation in extra-curricular activities or
voluntary service in the community. This scholarship may be renewed.

Barry J. Barton Vietnam Veteran/Agent Orange Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a Vietnam veteran or a descendent of
a Vietnam veteran, carrying a minimum 2.5 grade point average and demonstrating
financial need. Applicants must submit a copy of DD214 as proof of eligibility.
The scholarship may be renewed.

Chessie Federal Credit Union Achievement Award

Criteria: The recipient must be a member in good standing of Chessie
Federal Credit Union or be the spouse, son or daughter of a member and
have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above. The recipient
may be a full-time sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student.

Nikki Clark Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a resident of Allegany County, Maryland,
and enrolled as a full-time undergraduate at Frostburg State University
with a declared major in criminal justice, education, psychology, sociology
or social work. First preference is given to residents of the George's
Creek District defined in 2002 by Allegany County as voting districts
8, 9, 10 and 18 (and district successors to this area) which includes
residents in the general areas of Luke, Westernport, Barton, Lonaconing,
Midland and Shaft. The recipient(s) must have an FSU overall grade point
average of 3.0 or better. Freshmen must have an overall high school
grade point average of 3.0 or better. Awards may be received for four
consecutive years if an overall grade point average of 3.0 or better
is maintained. In the event of equally qualified applicants, a preference
will be given to those with demonstrated financial need.

Class of 1959 Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a junior or senior enrolled full-time
and have demonstrated participation in campus activities as shown by
membership, leadership or service as a contributing organizer of a major
campus project, event or program. The recipient(s) must have an FSU
overall grade point average of 3.2 or better.

Cobey/Lane/Footen Leadership Award

Criteria: The recipient must be a full-time sophomore, junior or senior
at FSU with demonstrated leadership skills as evidenced by one year
or more of service as a volunteer officer or student leader in programs
or activities impacting the FSU campus. An overall grade point average
of 3.0 or higher is also required.

Cumberland Business and Professional Women's
Organization Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a full-time FSU student with demonstrated
academic potential. Preference will be given to female non-traditional
age applicants over the age of 25. Recipients must be from the tri-state
area, trade radius of 75 miles of Cumberland - West Virginia, Pennsylvania
and Maryland. The recipients must be willing to attend a scheduled BPW
Cumberland meeting and may be asked to prepare a short speech on their
career goals and objectives.

Cumberland Lions Club Foundation Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a resident of Cumberland, MD and be
an incoming freshman or a veteran. Documented financial need and a 3.0
or higher high school grade point average is required of incoming freshmen.
Veterans must have a 3.25 or higher grade point average. To retain the
scholarship for a second semester, the student must maintain at least
a 2.75 FSU grade point average.

Dr. Harold and Geraldine Delaney Leadership Award

Criteria: The purpose of the Dr. Harold and Geraldine Delaney Leadership
Award is to promote the development of student leaders through participation
in co-curricular and experiential leadership programs. Applicants must
be enrolled full-time at and have participated for at least one year
in leadership programs and student activities as sponsored through the
FSU Division of Student and Educational Services. The recipient must
be a sophomore, junior, or senior with an FSU overall grade point average
of 2.3 or better. Demonstrated participation may be shown by involvement
in student leadership and volunteer programs sponsored by the Department
of Student and Community Involvement; the G.O.L.D. leadership program
coordinated by the Residence Life Office and other student leadership
programs as identified by the FSU Division of Student and Educational
Services

Delta Chi Disabled Student Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must have a documented disability (registered
with FSU Disability Support Services), be enrolled as a full-time student
and have demonstrated academic ability.

Dean Ivan C. Diehl Alumni Association Freshman Award

Criteria: The recipient must be a freshman who is a dependent or a descendant
of an FSU alumnus as recorded by the Alumni Office. Demonstrated participation
in extra-curricular activities is also required.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Farano Freshman/Sophomore Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a freshman or sophomore. Freshman applicants
must be accepted for admission to FSU. Sophomores must maintain satisfactory
academic progress. In the event of equally qualified applicants, preference
will be given to applicants with demonstrated financial need. Awards
may be received for two consecutive years (four semesters) if satisfactory
academic progress is maintained.

Fidelity Bank Achievement Award

Criteria: The recipient must be a graduate of a high school in Allegany
or Garrett County, with preference given to transfers of junior or senior
status from Allegany College of Maryland or Garrett College with a minimum
3.5 grade point average.

Fort Cumberland Lodge #211 and Orh Lodge #131 Scholarship

Criteria: Applicants must be residents of Allegany County, Maryland,
and attended Allegany College with an overall grade point average of
3.0 or higher, having attained or completed sophomore class status and
be declared as a full-time student at FSU (transferred, transferable
or enrolled). Preference given to undergraduate renewal applicants,
the award may be received for two consecutive years. For renewal, a
minimum FSU grade point average of 3.0 is required.

Jeanette and C. William Gilchrist Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a graduate of Allegany College of Maryland,
entering FSU with junior or senior class status. Allegany College grade
point average must be at least 3.0. Need may be a determining factor.
The scholarship may be renewed if a 3.0 FSU grade point average is maintained.

Catherine R. Gira Campus to Community Fund Scholarship
Department/Contact: Office of the Provost
Criteria: Supports students who demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit,
critical thinking skills and a determination to be successful. Application
may require additional information such as an essay, recommendations,
or an interview. Proposals for awards are reviewed in the following
general categories. Determination of recipients/projects and award amounts
will be determined by the committee. LEADERSHIP: To support student
leadership projects and programs. To include but not be limited to training
programs, workshops, conferences, retreats, undergraduate research and
other opportunities of similar nature. ALUMNI CONNECTIONS: To support
students or groups of students in alumni mentioning or other programs
of similar nature. COMMUNITY SERVICE: To promote, encourage and assist
in the FSU community and volunteer services program. Funding will assist
students and or student groups to meet off-campus housing, transportation
costs and/or other costs associated with approved FSU community service
projects. Funding may be for an individual or for a group. Examples
may include, but not limited to, spring or summer recess projects, emergency
disaster relief projects or other projects as deemed acceptable by the
committee. Funding may include, but not be limited to, supplies, materials,
travel, or other related costs. INTERNSHIPS: To support the internship
programs of FSU, including but not limited to, placement of interns
in Annapolis or Washington, D.C. Funding is intended to help student
interns meet off-campus housing and transportation costs, thereby helping
to ensure that students accepted as interns have the resources needed
to participate in the program. Other academic programs may qualify for
application as determined by the committee chair, eg., education, social
work, recreation, business, and other academic areas. STUDY ABROAD:
To support students in the FSU study abroad program or other programs
as developed by the University for similar studies. Funding will assist
students and or student groups to meet off-campus housing and transportation
costs associated with approved FSU study abroad programs.

Frostburg Rotary Club Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a full-time, entering freshman. Preference
will be given to applicants from Frostburg, Maryland, graduating from
Mountain Ridge High School or Bishop Walsh High School with a high school
grade point average of 3.0 or above.

FSU Girls State Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must have attended the Girls State program at
FSU and be recommended by the Girls State Scholarship Committee. Information
on the scholarship program is provided to Girls State participants.

Jane H. Grindel Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a resident of Allegany County, Maryland,
have demonstrated academic ability and be a full-time student enrolled
at FSU with a grade point average of 3.0 or better, or accepted to FSU
with a 3.0 grade point average. Documented financial need may be a determining
factor. The scholarship may be renewed.

Dr. Nelson P. Guild Senior Honors Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a senior in the Honors Program with
demonstrated leadership ability and ability in the use of the English
language.

Thelma Hadley and Bernetta M. Smouse Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a graduate from Mt. Ridge High School
with a preference given to residents of Lonaconing or Midland. One award
is to be given to an incoming freshman. The award may be received for
a total of 4 years if an FSU grade point average of 2.8 or better is
maintained. The recipient's high school grade point average must be
3.0 or above. Recommendation letter from high school guidance counselor
or career services officer required. Demonstrated financial need may
be a determining factor.

Elisabeth Hitchins Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a full-time junior or a senior with
a minimum grade point average of 3.25 who participates in extra-curricular
activities and also demonstrates financial need and self-support. An
interview may be required. Awards may be renewed up to two consecutive
years depending upon availability of funds. Preference is given to renewal
applicants and then to those from Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Hot Stove Scholarship

Criteria: Preference will be given to a full-time freshman graduating
from a high school in the area served by the Hot Stove League since
1985, and to applicants with demonstrated involvement for a minimum
of three years in organizations whose purpose is recreational, volunteer,
civic or educational in nature. The recipient must have demonstrated
financial need.

J.B. Joynt III Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a full-time incoming freshman who is
a graduate of Laurel High School, Laurel, MD. A letter of recommendation
from the applicant's high school must be submitted. Participation in
extracurricular activities is a requirement. In the event of equally
qualified applicants, preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated
financial need.

LaVale Century Club Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a graduate of Allegany College of Maryland,
entering FSU with junior class status, and with an Allegany College
grade point average of at least 3.5. Need may be a determining factor.

Loats Foundation Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a resident of Frederick County, MD,
and be a full-time student. Preference will be given to applicants who
are orphans or from a single-parent home with demonstrated financial
need. Second preference is given to renewal applicants who have maintained
at least a 3.0 grade point average, and who have declared an intent
to pursue a career in public service and have demonstrated financial
need. An overall preference is given to renewal applicants who maintain
at least a 2.8 grade point average. Hagerstown Center students are eligible
to apply.

Tanya McCaw Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient of this sophomore award must have a cumulative
grade point average of 2.7 or above, two letters of recommendation from
FSU faculty/staff members and a 500-word essay that demonstrates personal
qualities of promptness, dependability and hard work as learned through
participation in extracurricular activities as a freshman at FSU. Recipients
must have participated in the sport of field hockey in high school or
junior or community college prior to attending FSU.

McGowan-Davisson Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient(s) must be full-time with an FSU overall grade
point average of 3.0 or better. Freshmen are eligible upon acceptance
for admission. A preference is given to residents of Westernport, MD;
Luke, MD and Piedmont, WV followed by any student at FSU. Awards may
be received for four consecutive years if an overall grade point average
of 3.0 or better is maintained. In the event of equally qualified applicants
preference will be given to those with demonstrated financial need and
academic ability.

Patrick McKenna Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient of this freshman award must have a high school
grade point average of 3.0 or above, documented financial need and demonstrated
participation in extracurricular activities. The award is renewable
upon re-application after the first year if a grade point average of
2.5 or better is maintained. The application must include three letters
of recommendation from high school teachers and/or counselors.

New Page Employee Freshman Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a full-time freshman and a son or daughter
of a New Page (formerly Mead Westvaco) employee or retiree. The number
of awards is limited. Final determination is based on high school 3.5
grade point average.

New Page Employee Upperclassman Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a sophomore, junior or senior (enrolled
full time) who is the son or daughter of a New Page (formerly Mead Westvaco)
employee or retiree. The number of awards is limited. The final determination
for selection is based on the University cumulative grade point average.

Sarah & Edward Moran/Potomac State Transfer Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a transfer from Potomac State College
with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and be accepted to FSU.
The scholarship may be renewed for a second year if the overall grade
point average of 3.0 or higher is maintained. Preference will be given
to Potomac State graduates and applicants with demonstrated financial
need.

Woodward and Virginia Pealer Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a full-time sophomore, junior or senior
with demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to non-traditional
age students (25 or above). The recipient must maintain a cumulative
grade point average of 3.0 or above for renewal. Transfer students are
not eligible until an FSU grade point average is established.

Dwight Worthington Hammond "In Pursuit of Excellence" Scholarship
& Eleanor Ann Hammond "In Pursuit of Excellence" Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient(s) must be enrolled full-time with an overall
FSU grade point of 3.0 or better. The award may be renewed, previous
recipients are required to re-apply each year. Incoming freshman applicants
must have an SAT of 950 (CR+M) or better to apply. Applicants must have
demonstrated self support to attend college through work experience
(full-time, part-time, summer, work-study, etc.); demonstrated participation
in school or community extra-curricular activities and show demonstrated
financial need.

South Cumberland Business Association Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a student from Allegany, Fort Hill or
Bishop Walsh high schools with a high school grade point average of
2.5 or above. Preference will be given to freshmen. Applicants must
be U.S. citizens and full or part-time students. Award based on financial
need.

Mary Stevens Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must reside in Frostburg or within five miles
of its city limits and be a sophomore or above with a 3.25 grade point
average. Documented financial need is a determining factor.

William and Verna Ternent Scholarship

Criteria: Applicants must be enrolled full-time or be accepted for enrollment
as undergraduate students at Frostburg State University with a declared
major in early childhood/elementary education, biology, earth science,
environmental analysis and planning, geography, wildlife and fisheries,
and/or other degree programs developed by the University that have a
major emphasis on "natural resources." The determination of
majors which qualify for the major emphasis of "natural resources"
shall reside with the chief academic officer of the University. Applicants
must be residents of the "George's Creek" area of Allegany
County, Maryland defined for this purpose as residents with zip codes
of 21521, 21539, 21542, or 21562. Recipients must have unmet financial
need as determined by FSU. A preference is given to renewal applicants
and awards may be received for four consecutive years if an overall
grade point average of 3.0 or better is maintained. In the event of
equally qualified applicants a preference will be given to applicants
from Lonaconing, 21539 zipcode. In the event of equally qualified applicants,
a preference will be given to applicants with a major in early childhood/elementary
education.

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 172 Scholarship

Criteria: The recipients are selected by giving first preference to
Vietnam veterans or their descendants or dependents. Second preference
will be given to any military veteran or their descendants or dependents
serving a minimum of 6 months honorable service in active duty. The
submission of a copy of DD214 is required. Need may be a determining
factor. This award may be renewed.

Wensel-Faherty Allegany County Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a full-time freshman and a graduate
of a high school in Allegany County with a 3.5 minimum high school grade
point average, extra-curricular activities and documented financial
need.

Alan and Jane Wickert Study Abroad Memorial Scholarship
Contact: Center for International Education / Director
Criteria: The recipient(s) must have qualified to participate in the
FSU study abroad program or future program(s) established by the University
for similar studies. The intent is for the student to experience global
diversity. Recipients may apply for an award while abroad if approved
by the University. Award may be used for non-credit generating program
offered outside of the partner University, while abroad, providing said
activity meets the approval of the Center for International Education
Awards Committee. The study abroad must be to a country that will provide
a non-Western social and cultural experience. (Examples - non English
speaking countries, not considered to be Anglo-European). Preference
will be given to qualified applicants with demonstrated financial need.
Karen and Joseph Wooddell Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior
at FSU. The recipient must have graduated from high school in Garrett
County, Maryland, and be accepted at FSU or have an overall grade point
average of a 3.0. Awards may be received for four consecutive years
if an overall grade point average of at least 2.8 is maintained. In
the event of equally qualified applicants a preference will be given
to those who graduated from Southern High school and then for those
with demonstrated financial need.

Aaron Zumpano Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient must be a male graduate of a high school in
Allegany or Garrett counties in Maryland or Mineral County, West Virginia,
and be a full-time student at Frostburg State University. Applicants
must have demonstrated involvement in baseball or basketball programs
in high school or in junior or community college. A preference will
be given to graduates of Allegany College, Garrett College, or Potomac
State College also meeting the high school requirements.
