The following are a few of the programs offered by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC). Make a selection below for general information about these programs.

Guaranteed Access Grant – The Guaranteed Access Grant (GAG) is awarded to students who have extreme financial need. The grant is large enough to cover a large portion of the student’s cost of education at Frostburg State University, and awards range from $400 to $14,300 per year. The average award for students attending Frostburg State University during the 2006-2007 academic year was $10,000. To qualify for the GAG, students must have extreme financial need, be a high school senior at the time of application, have a 2.5 GPA, be a Maryland resident, and enroll at a Maryland college or university. Students must be full-time (12 credits) per semester in order to maintain eligibility for the award. To receive priority consideration for the GAG, student must have their FAFSA processed by March 1st. Students are also required to complete and submit a separate GAG application to the MHEC. Educational Assistance Grant – The Educational Assistance Grant (EAG) is another grant awarded by the State of Maryland. To qualify for an EAG students must have unmet need, be a Maryland resident, and be attending a Maryland college or university. Students must be full-time (12 credits) per semester in order to maintain eligibility for the award. A student who receives a Guaranteed Access Grant is not eligible to receive the EAG. Award amounts for the EAG range from $400 to $3,000 per year. There is no separate application for the EAG; however, students must have their FAFSA processed before March 1st in order to qualify. Delegate Scholarships - Both graduate and undergraduate students who are enrolled for at least 6 credits may apply for a Delegate Scholarship. The award amount for a Delegate Scholarship is a minimum of $200 per year. To qualify for a Delegate Scholarship students must be a Maryland resident and be attending a Maryland college or university. To receive priority consideration for a Delegate Scholarship, students must have their FAFSA processed by March 1st and must contact their delegate in February to determine if any additional application materials are required. Not all delegates participate in the Delegate Scholarship Program. To find out if your delegate participates, or to find out who your delegate is or how to contact him or her, please refer to the website for the MHEC. The Board of Supervisors of Elections for your county will be able to give you your delegate’s contact information.

Senatorial Scholarships – Both graduate and undergraduate students who are enrolled for at least 6 credits may apply for a Senatorial Scholarship. The award amount for a Senatorial Scholarship may range from $200 to $2,000 per year. To qualify for a Senatorial Scholarship students must be a Maryland resident and be attending a Maryland college or university. To receive priority consideration for a Senatorial Scholarship, students must have their FAFSA processed by March 1st and must contact their senator in February to determine if any additional application materials are required. Not all senators participate in the Senatorial Scholarship Program.
