HallSTARS! Program Details

The HallSTARS! Volunteer Program is a residential living-learning-serving experience for students committed to making a change in their communities. As a HallSTAR!, students will be part of the growing student service movement providing volunteer service as reading tutors, youth mentors, and more to our area youth.


Students may choose one of two Learning Communities that offer educational experiences which supplement their volunteer activities. All HallSTARS! students will reside in Cumberland Hall. THIS PROGRAM IS OPEN TO ALL FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS. ENROLLMENT FOR THE PROGRAM IS DONE ON A FIRST-COME FIRST -SERVE BASIS.


Students who successfully complete the program requirements will receive a $500 on-campus housing stipend supported by FSU. Transportation is provided to all service sites for students. Please contact the Center for Volunteerism and National Service at 301-687-4210 for more information.

Program Requirements

  • Volunteer twice a week at a designated site
  • Complete two special projects a semester
  • Attend two student activities a semester
  • Attend regular Team Leader meetings
  • Maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher

Financial Awards

At the end of the academic year, and after successful completion of the program, Exit Forms are complete and the informatioin is processed. A $500 housing stipend is made available only to those students signing their Room and Board Contract and paying their advance deposit for the following academic year.
