Terry Headlee

Mr. Headlee’s outstanding repertoire in journalism has included working for The Journal in Martinsburg, WV, from 1982-1986, to most recently, The Frederick News-Post. Terry has been the Managing Editor of The Frederick News-Post since September 2008. Prior to his employment in Frederick, Terry worked at Hagerstown’s The Herald-Mail, where he was employed for nearly 23 years, eight of which (2000 – 2008) were as the Executive Editor. He has also served five years as City Editor and ten years as a reporter in which he won most of his thirty-five writing awards.

Terry concurrently serves on the Editorial Committee for the MDDC (Maryland, Delaware, and D.C. Newspapers) Press. The MDDC highlights outstanding work and awards achievements of newspaper professionals and publications throughout the MDDC region. Serving as the Editorial Committee Chair for MDDC, his committee is responsible for recommendations for editorial contests, coordinating regional or statewide initiatives/projects that improve access to public documents, and provide recommendations for professional development and training. As Chair of the student internship program, he selects candidates and places interns with member papers.

Terry graduated from Kent State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Journalism. He graduated from FSU’s MBA program in 2003. While a student in Frostburg’s MBA program, he served on the newly-formed Student Advisory Council, implemented as a key constituent group for the accreditation of FSU’s College of Business with AACSB. Upon graduation, Terry was asked to then serve on the College’s Advisory Board, which encompasses alums from various backgrounds who aid in supporting program recommendations and decisions. Terry has been an active member of this board for 10 years now.

A native of Dublin, Ohio, Terry lives in Martinsburg, WV with his wife Loria. He is also active outside of work teaching square dancing and line dancing and is known for some acting within the Community Theatre.
