MSN Admission Process

Master of Science in Nursing – Admission Process

The MSN program admits students each fall, spring and summer. While there is not an admission deadline, it is recommended you apply the semester prior to the semester you plan to begin.

Interested candidates must follow these procedures:

1. Apply:  

Apply online at www.frostburg.edu/grad or by downloading and mailing in an application to:
FSU Graduate Services
101 Braddock Rd
Frostburg, MD 21532-2303

*Note: If you have been a student in the past at FSU, you will not need to pay the one-time application fee again.

2. Send official undergraduate and graduate transcripts to the above address:

Note: FSU students will not need to do this as the Office of Graduate Services has access to FSU transcripts

3. Submit supplemental application materials 

  1. Letters of reference: Applicants seeking admission to the MSN program are asked to obtain three letters of professional or educational reference. Original letters of reference or reference forms must be submitted with original signatures. Forms for reference can be found on the website.
  2. Resume: Provide a resume that reviews your educational and professional backgrounds.
  3. Copy of nursing license
  4. Essay: The MSN program application essay should be a typewritten essay (limited to two pages double spaced) in which the topics for your specialty track below are addressed. This essay will be reviewed as an academic writing sample for MSN admission and will be evaluated based on content, writing style and grammar. It will be used as one of the criteria that will be scored for admission along with other application requirements.

  • Why type of nursing leadership/management do you wish to pursue?

Education concentration essay requirements

  • Why do you feel this degree will help you achieve your career goals?
  • What nursing experience do you have that will make you an excellent educator?
  • What type of nursing education do you wish to pursue (academics, patient, staff)?
