COVID-19 Updates and Information

You’ve Been Admitted!

Congratulations on your acceptance to FSU! Now What?

Like other Maryland public universities, Frostburg State University is postponing the traditional May 1 Decision Day deadline. We are now encouraging admitted students to make a decision on or before June 1.

New uncertainties and difficulties of social distancing and online schoolwork make this senior year even more stressful for high school seniors. We hope the new deadline provides each student with more time to make this very important decision.

The Office of Admissions remains open and ready to work with our admitted students. Please call us at 301-687-4201 or email with an questions or concerns.

In the coming months, you'll receive information about admitted student opportunities and important next steps to get you ready to start at Frostburg. Your student ID was included in your acceptance letter. Here are some next steps in making it real!

Pay your tuition deposit

Paying your tuition deposit as early as possible gives you the most time to get ready for your life at Frostburg. You can’t be assigned to a Preview orientation session until your deposit is paid, so the sooner you take care of the deposit, the sooner we can get your summer schedule together.

You can pay your tuition deposit online with a credit card using Cashnet. Please choose Acceptance Fee (Non-refundable) for $150.

To pay with a check or money order, please use the envelope that was included with your acceptance letter.

Once your tuition deposit is paid, you can also apply for on-campus housing!

Take Your Placement Test

Once you pay your deposit, you will receive an email about how to take your placement tests through Canvas, our learning management system. All incoming first-year and transfer students take tests in math, reading and writing. Sample tests and charts outlining the scoring system are available for you to review.

For more information on placement testing, contact the Programs Advancing Student Success (PASS) office at 301-687-4441.

Only after you take your placement tests can you then register for a Bobcat Welcome Session.

Plan for Your FSU Experience

While you’re getting ready for Preview FSU, take a look through our Majors, Minors and Programs for a subject that interests you, and check our Student Organizations for a group that’ll make you feel at home.

Speaking of home, FSU is your home away from home.  You have several options for housing here at FSU from traditional dorms to living and learning communities.

And last, but certainly not least, you can get your degree without the debt here at FSU. You'll definitely want to check out the various scholarships and financial aid options.

Get Ready for FSU Orientation

Your journey begins by participating in three phases of our orientation experience for first-year students.

The first phase is to participate in our online orientation experience that will expose you to the incredible opportunities and resources that await you on campus. Once you've completed your placement testing, we will email a link to register for our first-year student orientation.

The second phase involves your participation in placement testing and academic advising. In early June, you can expect an invitation to participate in online placement testing through our FSU Canvas site. We will also ask you to answer a few online questions that will allow us to assign you to an academic advisor. Once placement testing is complete, an academic advisor will contact you to schedule a day and time when you can meet on the phone or through video chat to build your schedule for the fall.

The final phase begins in the fall when you join us for various "welcome to campus" activities and begin our Introduction to Higher Education (ORIE 101) one-credit course that will immerse you into our University culture.

We are so glad you chose Frostburg State University. As our communities emerge from these difficult conditions, we look forward to your graduation as a Bobcat in four years. This just might be the best time of your life and we look forward to being a part of it. See you soon!
