  • New Student Checklist
    Are You a New Student at FSU?

    If so, use this guide as you setup, activate and begin computing at FSU. Contact the IT Help Desk for answers if you have any questions.

    Receive your Username and password

    All students are automatically given a network account, with a unique username, when they are enrolled at FSU. Your FSU username and ID will be emailed from NewFsuAccount@frostburg.edu to the home email address you provided to FSU. Additionally, you can use the Find My Username utility to look up your username.

    Activate your FSU Account

    Your account is the core of computing access at FSU. It gives managed and secure access to the campus network and FSU computing resources. Before you can use your FSU account for the first time, you must activate your account using the steps below.

    1. To activate your account, navigate to the FSU Email Login page
    2. Enter your FSU Email and Password you received from NewFsuAccount@frostburg.edu
    3. You will be prompted to update your password. Use the following guidelines for creating a new password:

      Passwords must:
      • Be a minimum of eight (8) characters in length
      • Contain a least one (1) character from three (3) of the following categories:
        • Uppercase letter (A-Z)
        • Lowercase letter (a-z)
        • Number (0-9)
        • Special character (~!@#$%^&*_-+=`|\(){}[]:;"'<>,.?/)
      • Be private.

      Passwords must not:
      1. Contain a common word, proper name, your username, your email address, your first or last name.
      2. Have been used in the last ten (10) passwords.

      Register your computer and devices on the FSU network

      FSU provides free Internet access for all students on campus. To access FSU’s free Internet, you must register your computer and devices on the FSU network.

      Sign up for BURG Alerts

      It is strongly recommended that you sign up for Burg Alerts to receive public safety and/or university closing notifications by text message.

      WiFi setup

      You can set up access to FSU’s wireless network, WiFi@FSU, on your computer, laptop or mobile device. Visit the Wired and Wireless Access section of our site for more information, setup instructions and troubleshooting tips. You may contact the IT Help Desk for assistance if needed.

      Email Setup

      You can access your FSU email from the web
      Log into Email. The first time you do this you will need to set your preferred display language and home time zone for your account. After log in, you will go to a page where you can set these. Be sure to Save your selections.

      You can also access your FSU email from a computer, laptop or mobile device. Visit the Email Access page for further instructions and for a link to a setup wizard that will walk you through the process. You may contact the IT Help Desk for assistance if needed.

      Printer

      All University labs are equipped with free high-quality black and white laser printers. Color laser printing is available for a small fee through the Mail and Printing Services Office in the Hitchins Building.

      Cloud Services

      Partnering with Microsoft, FSU has made the Office 365 product available to all students at no cost. Office 365 is a cloud-based suite of solutions that gives students email, file storage, access to MS office programs and collaborative services and more. Students can get things done from virtually anywhere and any device. Visit the FSU's Office 365 page for more information.

  • New Employee Checklist
    Are You a New Employee?

    If so, use this guide as you setup, activate and begin computing at FSU. Contact the IT Help Desk for answers if you have any questions.

    Receive your Username and password

    All employees are automatically given a network account, with a unique username, when they are employed by FSU.

    HR will have you fill out the Certification of Security form before your FSU network account will be setup. Your Department Chair and Administrative Assistant will be contacted when your account is ready.

    Activate your FSU Network Account

    The network account is the core of computing access at FSU. It gives managed and secure access to the campus network and FSU computing resources. The first time you use your FSU Network Account, go to FSU's Password and Account Management page to set up your unique password and identity account security.

    1. Go to the Password and Account Management page
    2. Select Activate Your FSU Network Account
    3. Enter your FSU Username and click Submit
      (Enter your Username only, do not enter “@frostburg.edu”)
    4. Set up your four (4) identity security questions and click Submit
    5. Logout from the Portal

    Activate your Email Account

    Once you activate your FSU Network Account, you can use your FSU username and password to check your email.
    Log into Email.

    The first time you log in to email, you will need to set your preferred display language and home time zone for your account. Be sure to Save your selections.

    Sign up for BURG Alerts

    It is strongly recommended that you sign up for Burg Alerts to receive public safety and/or university closing notifications by text message.

    Telephone

    Your department will complete a Help Desk ticket to request that your office phone be activated. They will receive notification by email when the setup of your telephone is complete. You will need to set up your voicemail as described below. Visit the Telephone and TV-streaming Service (Xfinity) page for more information.

    Voicemail

    Each office telephone line at FSU is set up with Voicemail. The first time you call in to your voicemail you will need to set up your voicemail box. Dial x4030 and follow the instructions of the automated attendant. You will be required to record greetings and will have the option to set up other features.     Printers

    Most university computers have access to departmental printers. Check with your supervisor to see what printers you will need to have access to. The IT Help Desk can help you set up your printer access.

    H: drive & P: drive

    Employees are given personal space on the FSU network servers to store their files. This personal storage space is given the H: drive in the FSU Labs. Additionally, employees get access to shared departmental storage space which is the P: drive in the Labs. Files on the user's H: drive and P: drive are backed-up by OIT and provide a safe environment for file storage. In addition, files stored on these drives are readily accessible from any location on campus. Contact the FSU Help Desk if you do not have access to the department’s P: drive.
