FSU Moves to Online Instruction on 11/12 for Remainder of Semester
Given the governor’s office revised guidance from yesterday and recommendations from the Pandemic Recovery Team and the University System of Maryland, I have made the decision that Frostburg State University will move all classes, including finals, to online instruction for the rest of the semester, effective tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 12.

This move is in response to increases in some of our COVID-19 indicators combined with the governor’s guidance about the transmission of the virus in social settings being the number one cause of new cases.

Nov 4: Weekly Update from President Nowaczyk
We are moving forward with our return to the in-person portion of blended classes tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 5. Likewise, the Cordts PE Center – including weight room, climbing wall, racquetball courts, pool and gymnasiums – and Bobcat Stadium Turf and Track will re-open tomorrow and resume the activities that it has offered throughout the semester.

Frostburg State University to Resume Blended Classes on Thursday, Nov. 5
Frostburg State University, after a review of testing numbers from the two-week period, recent symptomatic cases monitored by Brady Health Center and related indicators FSU is monitoring, announced it will resume the in-person sessions of blended classes on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 8 a.m. Approximately 70% of classes feature a mix of online and in-person while the remaining 30% are entirely online.

Details Regarding Change to Online Instruction Thru Nov 4
A leading factor in the decision to move FSU to online instruction was a larger-than-expected increase in self-reported positive COVID-19 cases and visits to Brady Health Center, FSU’s student health clinic. In particular, between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, the number of active cases monitored by Brady increased by 12 to 32 active cases. The rate of growth in the local community’s positive cases was another area of concern.

Pausing athletic-related activity in some sports
FSU has decided to pause all athletic-related activity in the sports of men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s cross country and the hurdles and sprints cohort within the track and field team. These actions are taken in alignment with the guidance from NCAA’s Resocialization of Collegiate Sport guidance. FSU continues exercise an abundance of caution while operating its athletic programs.

Members of Frostburg State University Baseball Team Placed in Quarantine
Members of Frostburg State University’s baseball team are being placed in quarantine. Five players tested positive and were placed in isolation. Subsequently, the Allegany County Health Department, based on the results of contact tracing, provided the guidance to quarantine the rest of the team.

Members of FSU Men’s Lacrosse Team Quarantining Following Positive Test
Members of Frostburg State University’s men’s lacrosse team are being placed in quarantine after a player tested positive for COVID-19 and, between when the team members had been tested and the result was received, the team engaged in a high-intensity practice involving close contact among team members.

USM Announces New Testing Requirements
Today, the University System of Maryland announced its expectations regarding COVID-19 testing of students and all employees as the semester begins, along with other guidelines as we return for the fall semester.
