Average Size: 121 cm (48 in) and weighs 155kg (340lbs)

Average Lifespan: 11-20 years.

Range/ Distribution Map

Habitat description: Open plains, and dry, thorny bushes with lots of grass. African grasslands and savannas. 

Behavior/Diet: Herbivore. Generally not aggressive but will fight to keep young safe. Mark territories with dung. Can run up to 48 mph (80kmph). Sociable in herds of 300.

Conservation Status: listed as a least concern with biggest threat being hunting and loss of habitat.

Fun Fact:

Females only have one offspring per year.
