Range/distribution Map

Habitat Description: Arid savannas and grass plains in the northern regions of Africa and South America. They tend to live close to water.

Behavior/ Diet: Omnivore. Main prey is grass, roots, and bulbs. They also eat fruit, berries, insects, and occasionally small mammals, birds, and reptiles. Warthogs spend a lot of time wallowing in cool, muddy water.

Conservation Status: Listed as a least concern. Their biggest threat is loss of habitat and being hunted for the ivory in their tusks and their meat.

Fun Fact:

Though warthogs have bad eyesight they have great sense of smell.
