Dr. Ahmad Tootoonchi, dean of the Frostburg State University College of Business, has been named interim provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, one of several appointments within the division. Previous Provost William Childs has returned to his faculty position in the Department of Educational Professions.

“Dr. Tootoonchi brings to this position a tireless work ethic and a deep commitment to FSU and our students,” said Interim President Thomas L. Bowling. “His leadership of the College of Business has resulted in higher enrollments and greater opportunities for both students and faculty to engage in global learning experiences.”

Tootoonchi, whose doctorate is in leadership and human behavior, is co-author of “Guiding Principles for Leadership and Professional Success.” He joined FSU as a faculty member in the Department of Management in 1989, serving in a variety of roles over the years. He has been dean since 2010. He received the Outstanding Faculty Award for Teaching from the College of Business in 1997 and the Faculty Achievement Award from FSU in 1998 and 2003. He has been an active member in several professional organizations and was president of the International Academy of Business Disciplines from 2007 to 2012 and is a current member of its board of directors.

In addition, Dr. Sydney Duncan, chair of the Department of English, has been named associate provost. She will replace Dr. Randall Rhodes, who is to become the provost of American University in Armenia.

“Dr. Duncan has become a valued mentor to both students and her faculty colleagues,” Bowling said. “The deep understanding of FSU she has acquired as co-chair of our Middle States Self-Study and her expertise in assessment will serve her well as associate provost.”

Duncan has been a member of the FSU faculty since 2006 and a former officer of the Faculty Senate. She is the recipient of the President’s Distinguished Faculty Award. Duncan is co-chair with Rhodes of the self-study process for the upcoming Middle States Commission on Higher Education reaccreditation evaluation visit.

During Tootoonchi’s tenure as interim provost, Dr. Sudhir Singh, associate dean of the College of Business, will become acting dean. Singh joined FSU in 1992. He has a doctorate in finance from Virginia Tech and an MBA with a concentration in finance from Georgia Tech.

“I know that the College of Business will be well-served by Dr. Singh’s thoughtful leadership during this time of transition,” Bowling said. “I appreciate his willingness to assume these additional responsibilities.”
