Baseball Continues to Rank Among National Statistical Leaders

FROSTBURG, Md. — The Frostburg State baseball team continues to rank among the national leaders in the recent NCAA Division III statistics released Wednesday.

As of games played through Sunday, May 1, the Bobcats are 15th in the nation with a .352 team batting average.

In the individual rankings, junior lefthander Billye Hollister (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) is 27th in the country with a 1.72 earned run average, having allowed just 13 earned runs in 68.0 innings, and he is also tied for 27th in the nation with seven victories (7-2).

Senior righthander Dan Lindner (Cumberland, Md./Allegany) is 27th in the country with 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings. He has fanned 56 batters in 51.0 innings of work.

Sophomore shortstop Mike Gitzen (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) is tied for 24th with 0.47 doubles per game, lacing 16 two-baggers in 36 contests.

Frostburg State, which improved to 26-11 overall and 17-1 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference with a doubleheader sweep of league rival Pitt-Bradford this past Monday, returns to action Saturday when it hosts Waynesburg for a non-conference twinbill starting at 1 pm.

The Bobcats captured their third AMCC regular-season title and will host the final four double-elimination portion of the AMCC Tournament May 13-15. The winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
