Baseball Crushes Mt. Aloysius In a Doubleheader Sweep

Frostburg, MD — Frostburg State kept swinging the hot bats as they scored early and often in 16-2 and 17-0 victories over visiting Mt. Aloysius Friday afternoon.

Junior Sean Davis (Sherwood/Olney, Md) led the Bobcats with two hits in each game and four RBI’s total as Frostburg State pounded out 30 hits in the double header. Overshadowed in the offensive explosion was the pitching of freshmen Marc Crawford (Middletown/Middletown, Md.) and Matt Sillers (Pallotti/Columbia, Md.). Crawford went four innings in the first game giving up two runs, while Sillers threw a complete game four-hit shutout in the second earning both their first collegiate victories.

Game two was over early as Frostburg State scored eight runs in the first two innings and rode the strong pitching performance of Sillers to improve to 14-6-1 on the season.

Senior Mark Teson (Shaker/Latham, N.Y.) had three walks and scored twice in the first two innings and fellow classmate Pat Fortunato (Fairport/Fairport, N.Y.) added three RBI’s in the thumping of the visiting Mounties (1-11).

The Bobcats jumped on the Mounties early in game one as Teson led off the bottom of the first with a walk and moved to second on a error. After a single, sophomore Scott Feller (American Heritage/Coral Springs, Fla.), who leads the team with a .397 batting average, doubled home two runs.

The Bobcats finished the inning with eight runs off of six hits and it was all the Bobcats needed as Crawford and two releivers combined for the Bobcat win.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Bobcat reserves blew the game open as they added five more runs capped by Justin Wilt's (Brunswick/Brunswick, Md.) two-run homerun to center that actually bounced off the top of the wall over.

The Bobcats return to action tomorrow as they visit St. Mary’s College for a double header.
