Baseball Doubled Up By Juniata

CUMBERLAND, MD — Juniata broke a scoreless tie with a four-run third inning and held off a late Frostburg State rally to claim a 6-3 win over the Bobcats Tuesday afternoon at Rick Hamilton Field.

The Eagles (15-18) were held hitless over the first two innings before sophomore Marc Frailey led off the third with a bunt single. Senior Lucas Kelleher was then hit by a pitch, and both runners advanced on a wild pitch.

Senior Jamie Campbell reached on an error that scored Failey, and senior Tim Dobson followed with an RBI-single down the right field line to give Juniata a 2-0 lead.

Campbell later scored on a wild pitch, and senior Matt Slagel capped the rally with a sacrifice fly that plated Dobson.

The Bobcats (17-13) got on the board in the fifth when junior Mark Teson (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) led off with a bunt single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by junior Dave Sanchez (Monrovia, Md./Urbana).

Juniata countered with a run in the sixth on a double-play ground out by sophomore Kodi Hockenberry, and the Eagles built a 6-1 lead in the seventh on one of FSU's five errors.

The Bobcats closed to within 6-3 in the seventh on an RBI-double by junior Tim Wilkins (Baltimore, Md./Mervo) and a run-scoring single by senior Chris Hammond (Brookville, Md./Sherwood (Montgomery-Germantown JC)), and FSU looked to pull even in the ninth.

The hosts put runners on first and second with two out, but Eagle freshman Nate Capp came in to record the save by getting a game-ending ground out.

Senior Tim Keeley (3-2) allowed just one run on three hits in five innings to earn the win.

Bobcat junior Dave Huber (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore (Montgomery-Germantown JC)) fell to 1-4 on the season after giving up three earned runs on four hits in three innings.

Freshman Matt Garner went 3-for-5 for Juniata, while Dobson was 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.

Wilkins, Hammond and sophomore Ryan Hamerski (Olney, Md./Sherwood) collected two hits apiece for the Bobcats.

Frostburg State returns to action on Saturday when it hosts St. Mary's (Md.) College at Rick Hamilton Field in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
