Baseball Downs Juniata for Seventh Win in Last Eight Games

HUNTINGDON, PA - Junior Scott Feller (Boca Raton, Fla./American Heritage) went 2-for-5 with three RBI to lead Frostburg State to a 7-3 win over Juniata Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats, seeking an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, improved to 26-17 overall with their seventh win in their last eight games, while the Eagles fell to 24-15.

FSU, which won its third Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference title last weekend, jumped on the scoreboard in the top of the first when junior Chris Baugher (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick) laced a two-run single.

Juniata, which won the Commonwealth Conference championship and the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament last weekend, countered quickly with two runs in the bottom of the inning, but the Bobcats moved back in front in the second on a run-scoring single by Feller.

The teams then battled through five scoreless frames before Juniata pulled even in the bottom of the seventh with a run on a wild pitch.

FSU came right back and blew the game open with a four-run eighth.

Senior Kevin Romanik (Millville, N.J./Millville) singled and stole second before scoring the go-ahead run on a double by freshman Todd Holmes (New Bloomfield, Pa./West Perry).

Holmes later scored on an error, and Feller added a two-run double to give the Bobcats a 7-3 cushion.

Senior Sean Davis (Olney, Md./Sherwood) went 1-for-2 to give him 181 career hits, tying the FSU mark set by Pat Sweeney (1997-2000).

Freshman Chris Jones (Baltimore, Md./Towson) was 2-for-5 with two runs scored.

Senior Brent Lutz (Toms Brook, Va./Central) tossed the first six innings, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out four. He allowed a lead-off single in the seventh and was replaced by sophomore Jimmy Hardy (Myersville, Md./Middletown).

Hardy (1-1) earned the victory in relief, striking out in one inning of work.

The Bobcats return to action tomorrow when they visit Arcadia for a nine-inning game starting at noon.
