Baseball Names 2006-07 Captains

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State baseball coaching staff has recently announced its captains for the 2007 season.

Senior infielder Art Barone (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y./Spring Valley), junior left-handed pitcher John Micklus (La Plata, Md./McDonough), and junior catcher Joe Daddura (Fallston, Md./Calvert Hall) have been named by Head Coach Chris McKnight for the FSU Baseball Program.

Barone, a three-year starter, was selected to the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Second Team in back-to-back seasons and was among the team's leaders in hits (37), batting average (.356) and RBIs (13) in 2006.

Micklus, also a three-year starter, will be the leader of the pitching staff this season after having a career year in 2006. He was named to all-conference honorable-mention team last spring and was among the Bobcat leaders in ERA (2.32), strikeouts (74), and innings pitched (66.0).

Daddura, a two-year starter, is coming off his best season as a Bobcat. Joe averaged .263 with 10 hits and seven homeruns and 70 putouts.

"The coaching staff is proud to name these three student-athletes to lead the program on and off the field,” said McKnight. “We feel these men have earned this honor, not only by the coaches, but by their teammates as well."
