Baseball Picked to Capture AMCC Title

GIBSONIA, Pa. — The Frostburg State baseball team has been selected as the preseason favorite to capture the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference crown as voted on by the league’s coaches. Penn State Behrend is expected to finish second while Pitt-Bradford occupies the third spot.

Penn State Altoona shortstop Tony Petulla is the coaches' selection as Preseason Player of the Year. He earned AMCC Co-Player of the Year and first team all-conference honors last spring.

Senior Billye Hollister (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone), the other 2005 Co-Player of the Year, is this season’s AMCC Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Also a first team all-conference selection, the lefthander posted a 7-3 record in 2005 with five complete games. He had a league low ERA (1.75) to go along with 80 strikeouts in 81.2 innings pitched.

Bobcat sophomore slugger Andrew Speights (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point), the 2005 AMCC Newcomer of the Year, has been listed as a player to watch this spring. He finished his rookie campaign ranked second in the conference in RBIs (40) and fifth in batting average (.390), hits (53) and total bases (74).
