Baseball Upsets #1 Seed in First Round of AMCC Tournament

BRADFORD, PA - The fourth seeded Frostburg State baseball team upset the top seeded Pitt-Bradford Panthers 12-7 in the first round of the double-elimination Allegheny Mountian Collegiate Conference Tournament Friday morning.

Trailing 7-5 in the top of the ninth the Bobcats scored seven runs to take a commanding 12-7 lead into the bottom half of the ninth.

In the ninth the Bobcats (23-16, 6-6) received two-run singles from junior Scott Feller (American Heritage/Boca Raton, Fla.) and senior Chris Baugher (Brunswick/Frederick, Md.) as FSU scored seven runs on only six hits.

On the mound for the Bobcats, sophomore Mike Tiller (Potomac/Dumfries, Va.) started the game and went three and two-thirds innings allowing four runs on seven hits. Senior Dan Sidorowicz (St. Mary's Ryken/Leonardtown, Md.) and junior Andrew Byer (Osbourn Park/Manassas, Va.) relieved Tiller and combined to go two innings, while allowing three runs.

Trailing 7-5 in the sixth, senior Chris McGarvey (Glendale/Fallentimber, Pa.) came in and threw two and one-third scoreless innings earning the victory.

In the bottom of the ninth, sophomore Collin Bednar (Glen Burnie/Millersville, Md.) set down the side not allowing a hit and striking out one.

Offensively,the Bobcats were led by senior's Sean Davis (Sherwood/Olney, Md.) and Feller, along with freshman Chris Jones (Towson High/Baltimore, Md.).

Feller went 2-5 with a run scored and two RBI. Davis was 2-3 with two runs scored, two RBI, and a walk. Jones, in his first AMCC tournament game, went 3-4 with two runs scored and also reached on a hit by pitch.

The Bobcats will now play in the winner's bracket semi-finals on Saturday May 1 at 9:00 a.m. against the winner of game two between #2 La Roche and #3 Penn State Altoona.
