Baseballs Falls to Arcadia in the Ninth

MT AIRY, PA - The Frostburg State baseball team gave up two runs in the bottom of the ninth, falling to Arcadia College 7-6 on Sunday afternoon. Arcadia scored four runs in the final two innings for the victory.

In hte first inning the Bobcats (26-18) jumped out to a 2-0 lead as they scored both runs on a two-run homerun by juniorScott Feller (American Heritage/Boca Raton, FL).

Arcadia tied the game at two in the bottom of the second as the Knights put together a string of four singles off of FSU starter, junior Daryl Keys(Salem Central/Salem, N.Y.).

Frostburg State regained the lead as they scored one in the fourth and two more in the fifth. In the fourth, FSU's run came on no hits and two two-out errors.

In the fifth, the Bobcats got two more runs on two hits and two more Knight errors. Senior Ryan Hamerski (Sherwood/Olney, Md.) and junior Chris Baugher (Brunswick/Frederick, Md.) each drove in a run.

Arcadia began to chip away as they scored one in the sixth on a solo homerun by Anthony Matranga. In the bottom of the eigth, down two runs the Knights tied the score at 5-5 as they scored two runs on no hits , a walk and two Bobcat errors.

In the top of the ninth, FSU took a one-run advantage as senior Sean Davis (Sherwood/Olney, Md.) led off the inning with a double, but was thrown out trying to steal third.

On the steal attempt, senior David Lydon (McDonough/White Plains, Md.), who was pinch running for Feller, put himself in scoring position and scored on a two-out double by senior Justin Wilt (Brunswick/Brunswick, Md.)

With the one run lead the Bobcats turned to sophomore Collin Bednar (Glen Burnie/Millersville, Md.), who gave up a walk, a sac bunt and then a single to blow his second save of the season. He followed the RBI single up with a walk. He was then replaced by senior Chris McGarvey (Glendale/Fallentimber, Pa.), who faced just two batters, hitting the first with a pitch to load the bases and then gave up the game winning single to Brandon Mazzie.

The Bobcats finish the regular season with an overall record of 26-18 as they won the AMCC conference championship for the third time and were winners of seven of their last nine games falling just short of the NCAA tournament at-large bid.
