03/10/2016 Lists FSU 11th Among Most Affordable Small Colleges for a Master’s in Psychology, an online independent guide to earning a bachelor’s or master’s degree in psychology, recently ranked Frostburg State University number 11 of the 49 most affordable small colleges in the United States for a master’s in counseling psychology for 2016. compiled this list after searching the College Navigator database for all schools in the U.S. offering master’s degrees in psychology with a total undergraduate enrollment of fewer than 7,000. Tuition figures are taken from the same source. College Navigator is a product of the National Center for Education Statistics, the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data related to education in the U.S. and other nations.

FSU’s Master of Science in Counseling Psychology prepares students to work in mental health clinics, counseling centers, addictions clinics and human service agencies. The program is committed to science-based training and was the first counseling psychology master’s program in Maryland and only the sixth nationwide to receive accreditation from the Master’s in Psychology Accrediting Council. The FSU master’s program is focused on the development of personal qualities, understanding and professional skills that will make the student an able practitioner in the field. The program includes significant self-discovery as well as the acquisition of the competencies of a professional counselor.

FSU’s program features small classes, community support and experiential learning opportunities. One unique experiential learning opportunity is individual therapy that allows students to experience the role of the client. Students are also required to complete a year-long internship. This master’s degree in psychology program can be completed in three years and prepares students for licensure as clinical professional counselors. Graduates from this program are reported to be successful in finding employment as college counselors, mental health counselors, and drug and alcohol counselors. Out-of-state tuition was calculated at $8,262.’s mission is to connect students with everything they need to know about choosing a graduate degree in psychology, as well as valuable resources needed to flourish as psychology professionals.
