Bobcat Men's and Women's Soccer Favored in AMCC Preseason Coaches Poll

PITTSBURGH — Both the Frostburg State University men's and women's soccer teams are the favorites to defend their Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference titles in a recent preseason vote by the league's seven head coaches.

The Bobcat women earned five of seven possible first-place votes to outdistance runner-up Penn State Behrend.

Frostburg State, which captured its first AMCC Championship last season with a 4-1 win over Behrend in the title game, will be under the direction of first-year head coach Brian Parker.

Parker will benefit from the return of 13 letterwinners off a squad that posted school-record 17-5 finish and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.

In the men's poll, FSU edged conference rival Penn State Behrend in a tight vote. Both teams earned three first-place nods, but the Bobcats had the edge in second-place ballots.

Frostburg State, which has won all five AMCC regular-season crowns, blanked the Lions, 2-0, in last year's title match. First-year head coach Keith Byrnes brings 18 letterwinners back from last season's 12-7-1 squad that advanced to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Mid-Atlantic Championships.

In women’s volleyball, Penn State Behrend was chosen to win its second-straight conference crown, slightly ahead of Frostburg State, which finished 14-18 overall and made a surprise run to the AMCC title match last season.

The Lions, who defeated the Bobcats, 3-1, in the championship, earned three first-place votes to FSU's two. Second-year head coach Jeff Billington looks to challenge for the program's fifth AMCC crown in six years with six returning letterwinners and a talented recruiting class.
