Bobcats Edged By Waynesburg in Regular-Season Finale

Frostburg, Md. ... The Frostburg State women's tennis team dropped a narrow 5-4 decision to visiting Waynesburg College in its regular-season finale Thursday afternoon at the Cordts Center Courts.

The Bobcats (6-8) took a 2-1 lead in tightly contested doubles action, as juniors Christina Miserandino (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Becky Allnutt (Frederick, Md./Catoctin) edged Andrea Custer and Libby Abramovich, 9-8 (7-5 tiebreaker) at the top flight, and freshmen Kayce Kerr (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) and Lisa Killen (Darnestown, Md./Quince Orchard) claimed a close 8-6 win at the third position.

But, Waynesburg rallied with strong singles play, winning four of the six matches. Allnutt turned in an impressive 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 2 flight to record her sixth win in her last seven matches, while Killen claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win at the sixth spot for the Bobcats' other victory.

The Yellow Jackets used 6-0, 6-0 wins at the Nos. 1 and 3 spots before clinching the match with wins at the fourth and fifth positions.

The Bobcats return to action this Saturday at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament hosted by Penn State Altoona.
