Bobcats Finish Third at Mason-Dixon Championships

Newport News, Va. ... Senior Megan McNew, junior Cindy Reese and sophomore Maria Ferguson each captured individual titles to lead the Bobcats to a third-place finish at the Mason-Dixon Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Christopher Newport.

FSU scored 99 points and finished behind Christopher Newport (262) and Salisbury State (105).

Reese set a conference and FSU record in the pole vault with her first-place jump of 10-feet, 1 1/2-inches, while Ferguson met the standard for the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships with a winning time of 12.2 seconds in the 100-meter dash.

McNew enjoyed a solid meet by winning the 10,000-meter run in 40:57.6 and finishing second in the 5,000-meter run in 19:29.46.

Sophomore Inga Olsen turned in runner-up finishes in the 3,000-meters (11:21.59) and the 10,000-meters (42:30.9).

The 400-meter relay team of Cheronda Lee, Ferguson, Nakeisha Collins and Donita Valentine met a provisional NCAA Division III qualification with a second-place time of 49.19 seconds.
