Bowery, Brown Lead Men's Basketball Past Lake Erie

PAINESVILLE, OH — Junior Pierre Bowery (Kensington, Md./Albert Einstein) scored a team-high 25 points and senior Sean Brown (Baltimore, Md./North County) added 23 points, eight rebounds and seven assists to lead Frostburg State to an 88-76 win over host Lake Erie College Saturday afternoon in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game.

The Bobcats improved to 9-9 overall and 5-2 in the AMCC, while the Storm dropped to 7-13 and 1-6 in league action.

The teams battled through a tight first half before heading to the lockerrooms deadlocked at 39.

Frostburg State took control in the second stanza behind 56.7 percent shooting (17-of-30), including 7-of-11 from three-point range. Bowery scored FSU's first eight points of the second half as the Bobcats built a 60-53 cushion.

Junior A.J. Ernst (Minster, Ohio/Minster) then helped FSU pull away for good by sinking three straight three's to give the visitors a 69-53 lead with 10:00 remaining. Ernst finished with a career-high 17 points and shot 5-of-7 from behind the arc.

Lake Erie got no closer than nine, 77-68, as the Bobcats won for the sixth straight time in the series. FSU is 10-2 all-time against the Storm.

The Bobcats held a slight 42-36 advantage on the glass and finished a blistering 13-of-24 (54.2) from three-point range. The 13 three's are a season-high.

FSU sophomore Ryan Grabill (Hagerstown, Md./Williamsport) had another solid all-around game, posting seven points, five rebounds and a career-high nine assists.

Sophomore Aaron Johnson scored a game-high 26 points for Lake Erie, while sophomore Brandon Henderson added 24 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Tony Tibayan posted a triple-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

Frostburg State will host Villa Julie on Thursday at 8 p.m.
