Bridgewater Downs Salisbury in Opening Game of FSU Tip-Off Tournament

FROSTBURG, MD - Junior Ricky Easterling (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk), sophomore Harry Moore (Newport News, Va./Warwick) and freshman Josh Maupin (Stuarts Draft, Va./Stuarts Draft) combined for 61 points to power Bridgewater to an 88-79 win over Salisbury in the opening game of the 2003 Frostburg State Tip-Off Tournament Friday night at Bobcat Arena.

Bridgewater (1-0) will face either Waynesburg or Frostburg State in the championship game Saturday at 4. Salisbury (0-1) will take on the Waynesburg-FSU loser in the consolation game at 2.

Easterling scored a game-high 23 points for the Eagles, while Moore added 20 points and six rebounds. Maupin finished with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting from three-point range in his collegiate debut.

Bridgewater held a slight 40-39 lead at halftime and battled Salisbury throughout a tight second half before sinking four free throws and a lay-up in the final 26 seconds to seal the victory.

The Sea Gulls took a 72-71 lead with 6:00 remaining, but Maupin nailed his sixth three-pointer of the night to put the Eagles in front for good.

The Sea Gulls missed seven of their last 10 shots over the final 5:00.

Freshman Segun Odumeru (Riverdale, Md./Parkdale) led Salisbury with 15 points, while sophomore Neil Tucker (Suitland, Md./Central) added 14 points, six assists and five rebounds.

Sophomore Justin Rice (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) finished with 13 points, and freshman Ray Williams (Hanover, Md./Meade) had 10. Junior Dameon Gibbs (Baltimore, Md./Walbrook) recorded a game-high 10 rebounds.

Bridgewater sank 19-of-24 shots from the free-throw line, while Salisbury was 4-of-7 from the charity stripe.
