Brown Leads Men's Basketball Past W&J, 90-80

WASHINGTON, PA — Senior guard Sean Brown (Baltimore, Md./North County) scored a career-high 25 points and dished out six assists to lead visiting Frostburg State to a 90-80 victory over Washington & Jefferson Saturday afternoon.

Brown hit 10-of-18 shots from the floor, including four three-pointers, grabbed five rebounds and added a game-high four steals.

Brown was clutch in the closing minutes of play, nailing a crucial three-pointer to stop a 6-0 President run and give FSU a nine-point cushion.

W &J junior guard Nolan Larry poured in a game-high 31 points, but FSU forced 18 W&J turnovers in the win.

The game was tightly contested over the first 13 minutes until FSU used a 13-4 run in a three-minute span to open a 35-23 lead with 3:50 remaining in the first half.

W&J narrowed the gap with an 11-3 run of its own in the final four minutes of the half, and the Bobcats took a 38-34 advantage into the break.

Frostburg State (2-2) outscored W & J, 15-6, over the first four minutes of the second half to build a 53-40 bulge, and the lead eventually hit 15 (70-55) on a jumper by junior Robert Jones (Ft. Washington, Md./Friendly) with 10 minutes remaining.

Jones finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double as a Bobcat.

The Presidents (2-4) closed to within six, 84-78, on a three-pointer by Larry with 1:38 left, but Brown answered with his fourth trey of the game 22 seconds later as FSU came away with the 10-point victory.

Bobcat junior guard A.J. Ernst (Minster, Ohio/Minster) netted 14 points and grabbed six rebounds, while senior forward Reynolds Mason (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) scored 13 points.

Sophomore center Tony Franz was the only other President in double figures with 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting. He also added seven rebounds. Senior forward Graig Marx notched eight points, eight assists and seven boards.

Frostburg State returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Shenandoah at 7:30 p.m.
