Burner Named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete

STARKVILLE, MS — Frostburg State University sophomore Megan Burner (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) has been named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar-Athlete for the 2002-03 academic year.

Burner, a catcher and outfielder, earned a 3.655 grade point average last year. She is majoring in early childhood/elementary education.

NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes must have achieved at least a 3.5 GPA over the course of the academic year.

In her collegiate debut season, Burner started all 16 games in which she played and hit .295 with 13 hits, including two doubles and a home run. She scored 12 runs, drove in seven and recorded four multi-hit games.

She earned FSU's Most Improved Player award.

"This is certainly a great honor for Megan and the Bobcat softball program," said second-year head coach Chris Starke. "Megan is one of the hardest working players on the team both on the field and in the classroom. She represents what Frostburg State softball is all about."

Last season, the Bobcats finished 13-12 overall and 7-5 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. FSU will open the 2004 campaign in the Methodist College Tournament to be held March 5-7 in Fayetteville, N.C.
