Burrough, Bobcats Blast Chowan, 55-24

FROSTBURG, MD – Sophomore Grant Burrough (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) threw a career-high three touchdown passes and ran for two more scores to lead Frostburg State to a 55-24 blowout of Chowan College in front of a Parents' Weekend crowd of 2,075 fans Saturday at Bobcat Stadium.

The Bobcats, who scored their most points since a 60-3 drubbing of Greensboro on October 11, 1997, got rolling on just the second play of the game when sophomore Anthony Long (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) took a short pass from Burrough, spun away from one defender and outran several others for a 66-yard score.

Bobcat sophomore Andy Wilson (La Vale, Md./Allegany) then blocked a punt on Chowan's ensuing possession, with the ball rolling out of bounds at the Brave 15-yard line.

Burrough, who finished 13-of-17 for 134 yards and added 30 yards on the ground, followed with a two-yard dive three plays later to give FSU a 14-0 lead less than five minutes into the game.

Frostburg State (2-1) used more strong special teams play later in the quarter to build a 21-0 bulge.

Senior Derek Kirk (Silver Spring, Md./Chopticon) returned a punt 78 yards down the Chowan 11-yard line and Burrough ran in from 11 yards out on the next play.

Chowan (1-3) pulled to within 21-10 in the second quarter.

Craig Janney connected on a 37-yard field goal for the Braves' first points of the afternoon, and Jimmy Sterling recovered a ball that rolled 20 yard into the end zone following a bad punt snap for a touchdown with 6:07 remaining in the first half.

Bobcat freshman Kevin Culbert (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) blocked another Chowan punt on the first series of the third quarter and Hale followed with a nine-yard scoring run on the next play to move the hosts in front, 28-10.

Burrough gave FSU a 25-point cushion with a 15-yard touchdown pass to junior Tim Wilkins (Baltimore, Md./Mervo) before Chowan quarterback Chris Stodgill responded on a five-yard scoring run just under five minutes later.

Burrough capped his strong afternoon with a 12-yard pass to freshman Adam J. Snyder (Scottdale, Pa./South Moreland) on the first play of the fourth quarter.

Hale's 66-yard punt return led to sophomore Edward Kearney's (Bel Air, Md./Calvert Hall) first career touchdown, a three-yard run with 12:23 remaining, and Kearney added a nine-yard scoring run following Chowan freshman Tyler Furlough's 30-yard touchdown strike to Taurus Riddick to cap the scoring.

Junior George O'Brien (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) led the Bobcats with eight tackles, including two for loss and 1.5 sacks.

Terrance Saxby had a game-high 10 tackles and added a fumble recovery for Chowan.

Frostburg State, which racked up 203 punt return yards and 294 yards of total offense, will visit defending Atlantic Central Football Conference champion Wesley on Saturday, October 6 at 1:00 p.m.
