Campus Activities Board Hosts Award-Winning Writer Patrice Gaines

The Frostburg State University Campus Activities Board will host a lecture by Washington Post reporter and novelist Patrice Gaines on Tuesday, March 12, beginning at 8 p.m. in the Lane University Center's Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and admission is free.

A recipient of the National Association of Black Journalists Award, Gaines will discuss her career as an editor and her two books, Laughing in the Dark and Moments of Grace. She reveals the pain and agony she encountered and imposed on others in her life. She gives life to issues that thousands of women have faced, but fear to discuss.

Laughing In the Dark, an autobiography, tells about Gaines' hardships while growing up. It gives insight on her transition from drug addict to successful editor/writer at the Washington Post. In Moments of Grace, Gaines empowers her readers to persevere and strive to obtain the things in life that seem unobtainable. This book was inspired by Gaines' tumultuous past of abuse and struggle. It also incorporates the experiences of others and how love, relationships and religion play pivotal roles in the life-altering decisions that she made.

Book signings by the author will take place prior to the lecture and possibly after. Campus Activities Board will have a table set up in the Lane University Center two weeks leading up to the event for people to register for a chance to receive an official signed copy of Laughing In the Dark or Moments of Grace. Also, in cooperation with Main Street Books, books may be purchased the evening of the lecture.
