Christopher Newport's Conques Scores Six; Lacrosse Falls 16-9

FROSTBURG, MD. – Christopher Newport senior Kristen Conques netted six goals and added four assists on the way to a 16-9 victory over Frostburg State, Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium.

FSU (4-8) drops its fourth game in a row, while CNU (12-4) extends its winning streak to four games.

The Captains netted a goal 30 seconds into the game, when Conques scored her first of the afternoon. Christopher Newport then went on to score three more goals, bringing the score to 4-0, 7:24 seconds into the contest.

Senior Ashley Mattison (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) got the Bobcats on the board with 23:30 remaining, followed by junior Carly Rihard (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) who would score five minutes later, making the score 4-2 at the 18:32 mark.

Both teams would exchange goals, before CNU would tally two unanswered goals.

Rihard and Conques would each net two goals apiece, settling the score 9-5 in favor of the Captains at the half.

In the second half, Christopher Newport lit up the scoreboard early, scoring a goal 33 seconds into the period.

Senior Ann Long (New Market, Md./Linganore) tried to keep FSU in the game, tacking on a goal with 19:57 left, however, freshman Bonnie Hansen answered with two goals, extending the Captains lead to 12-6.

Conques would score three more goals and senior Krystn Hankins would net one over the final 14:35, while FSU could only muster up three goals.

Senior netminder Rachel Lewis (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) made 14 saves in the losing effort, while CNU freshman goalie Gayle Robinson earned the win, making 10 saves.

Frostburg State returns to action on May 2, when it hosts York at 4:30 pm.
