Clapsaddle, Forrester to Be Awarded FSU Distinguished Alumni Achievement Awards

Frostburg State University will present the 2015 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Awards to Mary Clapsaddle, a community planner for the city of Baltimore, and Col. Ron Forrester, retired senior military analyst, at its 146th commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 21. Clapsaddle will be honored during the 9:30 a.m. ceremony for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Forrester will be honored at the 2 p.m. ceremony for the Colleges of Business and Education.

Clapsaddle, a member of the class of ’83, joined the Baltimore City Department of Planning in 2014, where she serves as a community planner in the northwest area of the city, working to revitalize communities and build healthy, vibrant neighborhoods. Previously, Clapsaddle was operating budget manager with the Department of Legislative Services, the nonpartisan staff agency to the Maryland General Assembly, where she supervised a team of analysts supporting the General Assembly in its oversight of fiscal policy and review of agency budgets and performance outcomes. She has also served as assistant state superintendent for Business Services with the Maryland State Department of Education and director of Policy Development with the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development. Clapsaddle began her career in Maryland government as a budget analyst with the Department of Legislative Services after six years as assistant to the Chatham (N.C.) County Manager. She also holds a master’s in regional planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Clapsaddle lives in Arnold, Md., with her husband, Chad.

Forrester, a member of the class of ’67, dedicated 45 years to the U.S. military, for which he served in a variety of roles with increasing responsibility and status. He spent 26 years in the U.S. Air Force as a missile and space operator, had two tours as a detachment and squadron commander, was chief of the Global Forces division and retired in the grade of colonel in 1993 while serving at the Pentagon. As a civilian, he served as senior systems analyst/project manager and then director of Operations at Science Applications International Corp. before becoming a senior military analyst there. Forrester graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education. In 1976, he earned a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Oklahoma. He is the president of the FSU Alumni Association Board of Directors and is a strong financial supporter of the FSU Annual Fund and the FSU Foundation. Forrester lives in Middletown, Md., with his wife, Dianna.

The Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award is one of the most prestigious honors bestowed on FSU alumni. Consideration is based on outstanding professional career growth; community involvement; demonstrated interest in their alma mater; philanthropic commitment to FSU; special achievements, awards, honors and distinctions; and/or educational background, which includes honors and involvement in special activities.
