Clark Leads Baseball Past Waynesburg, 5-1

HAMPDEN SYDNEY, Va. — Sophomore hit a two-run homerun in the eighth inning to help lead Frostburg State past Waynesburg 5-1, Friday at the Hampden-Sydney Tournament.

The Bobcats are now 2-4 on the season while the Yellow Jackets open the season 0-1.

WC opened the contest’s scoring with one run in the third inning. Chad Litten led off the inning with a single and later moved into scoring position after swiping second. Wes White then tripled Litten home for Waynesburg’s only run.

FSU recorded five hits in the first seven innings but was unable to score until the eighth. Senior Art Barone (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y./Spring Valley) started the rally with a double. Two batters later, Clark gave the Bobcats the lead for good and a 3-1 advantage with a two-run homer.

Frostburg State added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth. Junior Brett Mitchell (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) led off the inning with a walk and later scored on a Yellow Jacket error. Kroboth capped the scoring with a RBI single that plated junior Andrew Speights (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point).
