Clingan and Leiter Power Frostburg State At ECAC Championships

ONEONTA, N.Y. - Junior Jessica Clingan (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) and sophomore Brian Leiter (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scott Key) led Frostburg State at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships, last week. The pair each earned All-ECAC honors in their respective events.

Clingan, despite being the only female Bobcat representative at the meet, led the women to a 20th overall finish with 14 points. The FSU men finished 31st with eight points while SUNY Cortland won the championship on both the men’s and women’s side, tallying 92 and 94 points respectively.

The top eight athletes in each event scored points and were named All-ECAC for that event.

Clingan grabbed All-ECAC honors in all three of the events in which she competed. She was third in the 100-meter hurdles (15.01) and is currently 25th in the nation in the event. She was fourth in the 200-meter dash in a personal best 25.78. She was also sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.72.

Leiter guided the men with a second-place showing in the 800-meter run in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:52.24. It was also a personal best time and he currently ranks 18th on the national list. He accounted for all eight of Frostburg State’s points.

Junior David Cheeks (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) captured 11th in the 100-meter dash (11.32) and 21st in the 400-meter dash (51.58).

Sophomore Tade Turton (Pittsville, Md./Riverside) was 23rd in the 100-meter dash (11.64) while classmate Steven Flanagan (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) was 28th in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.28.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Cheeks, Turton, Siemann and freshman Garrett Daley were 17th in 44.49.
