Coffey Highlights Five Softball All-AMCC Selections

GIBSONIA, Pa. - Freshman Katelyn Coffey (Middletown, Md./Middletown) was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Co-Newcomer of the Year to highlight five Frostburg State players selected to this year’s all-conference teams released Monday.

Coffey earned honorable-mention honors after ranking fourth in the AMCC in wins (9), earned run average (2.58) and opposing batting average (.271), sixth in strikeouts (59) and ninth in innings pitched (92.1). On April 3, Coffey tossed a perfect game as FSU defeated Penn State Altoona 4-0. She stuckout 12 of the 21 batters she faced while winning her fourth game of the season. For her efforts, she was the named the league’s Pitcher of the Week.

Senior pitcher Lori Potts (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) is the lone Bobcat on the second team after being a first-team honoree as both a freshman and sophomore. Potts finished the season ranked 90th in the country in strikeouts per seven innings (5.8). She was third in the AMCC in stikeouts (105), ERA (2.48) and opposing batting average (.258), fourth in games started (19) and fifth in innings pitched (118.2). Potts accented her career at FSU by defeating last year’s National Champion Rutgers-Camden 3-2 in the season opener this year.

Potts, while earning All-AMCC honors as a pitcher, also made 31 starts in the field for the Bobcats. She led the team in RBIs (15), doubles (8) and walks (13). She also finished second in slugging percentage (.368), on base percentage (.376), runs scored (17), and total bases (32) and was fourth in batting average (.276) and fifth in hits (24).

Joining Coffey on the honorable-mention team is senior Amanda Griswold (Rockville, Md./Magruder), junior Amanda Baldwin (Baltimore, Md./North County) and freshman Kelly Filipowicz (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach).

Griswold was first on the team in total bses (33), second in RBIs (14), third in hits (26) and fourth on the team in slugging percentage (.340). She hit her first career homerun in an FSU jersey against Hood last Tuesday.

Baldwin, a first-team selection last year, finished second on the Bobcats in doubles (6) and total bases (32), tied for third in hits (26), fourth in RBIs (10) and fifth in batting average (.271) and slugging percentage (.333).

Filipowicz, while in just her first season, led the team in batting average (.390), slugging percentage (.403) and on base percentage (.397). She was second in hits (30) and fifth in RBIs (8) and total bases (31).

The Bobcats finish the season 16-19 overall and 11-7 in the conference.
