CollegeValuesOnline.com Lists FSU’s Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation and Parks Management Among Top 30 Best Value Recreation Degree Programs

CollegeValuesOnline.com, an online independent guide to selecting the best college for each individual, recently ranked Frostburg State University number 16 of the 30 top schools that offer parks, recreation and leisure studies bachelor’s degrees in the United States for 2016. FSU offers a major in recreation and parks management.

The programs included in this ranking were chosen from a pool of nearly 150 schools offering parks, recreation and leisure studies bachelor’s degrees. The ranking includes programs from a broad section of the parks, recreation and leisure field and includes degrees in hospitality and tourism. Points were awarded based on four categories: low tuition, high return on investment, a high percentage of students receiving financial aid and the number of minors, concentrations or areas of emphasis offered within the program. The return on investment figures were sourced from Payscale.com and the tuition and financial aid information from the National Center for Education Statistics College Navigator Database.

The bachelor’s degree in recreation and parks management at FSU offers students concentrations in community program delivery, adventure sports, hospitality management and tourism, and therapeutic recreation. Students of this program have taken advantage of internships at the YMCA, Disney resorts, state parks, and local parks and recreation departments. Adventure sports students have the opportunity to take classes in outdoor adventures, whitewater kayaking and cross country skiing. CollegeValuesOnline.com calculated FSU’s tuition at $7,982, the average 20-year return on investment at $193,500 and the number of students receiving financial aid at 87 percent and noted the number of concentrations, tracks or minors for FSU’s program is four.

FSU also offers a bachelor’s degree in adventure sports management and a fully only master’s degree in recreation and parks management.
