Community Invited to Participate in Language Lovers Challenge
05/31/2016

Immersion is one of the greatest ways to master a foreign language, and what better way to do that than to spend the summer reading a book or watching a movie in a new language?

Members of the community are invited to brush up on their foreign language skills this summer as part of the Language Lovers Challenge created by Dr. Heather Cisneros, a lecturer in the Frostburg State University Department of Foreign Languages & Literature.

“It’s intended as practice for students, who already knew a language, to increase their vocabulary and to be more fluent.” Cisneros said, adding that anyone in the community can participate in the challenge that runs from Wednesday, June 1, through Friday, Aug. 26.

The concept is easy: Accumulate points for reading a book in a foreign language (3 points) or watch a foreign film without subtitles and language dubbing (2 points). Participants share their experiences, linguistic peculiarities and reviews about what they watched or read at languageloverschallenge.wordpress.com. (Additional rules and information are found on the site.)

Anyone from beginners to advanced speakers of other languages can participate, including those who want to accumulate points for reading books and watching films in multiple languages. Participants choose their skill level on the website’s navigation menu to find the appropriate forum. Small prizes will be awarded for each skill level.
