Coyle Named Director of FSU’s BS Nursing Completion Program

Susan B. Coyle has been named director of Frostburg State University’s new RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program.

Coyle is completing her doctoral program at West Virginia University where she served as a senior lecturer at the School of Nursing before coming to Frostburg. Her previous assignments include assistant professor and coordinator of the Western Maryland Outreach Program at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. Coyle has also served as an instructor at both University of Maryland’s School of Nursing and Allegany Community College School of Nursing

The R.N. to B.S.N. completion program is a first step in FSU’s efforts to address Maryland’s shortage of nurses and nursing educators. It provides a pathway to career success for registered nurses in the Western Maryland region who choose to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The program is designed to offer registered nurses and those eligible to obtain a license the opportunity to advance their skills. The program will use a blended format that will include online class offerings to allow for work schedule flexibility. FSU’s long-term goal is to offer a Master of Science in Nursing degree, with an emphasis on developing nursing faculty.

“The decision to return to school can be difficult for registered nurses,” Coyle says. “The RN to BSN program at FSU tries to ease that transition by bringing together the convenience of online learning, the personal attention of a caring faculty in a small university setting and information that registered nurses can apply immediately to the care of their patients.”
