Culbert Named to Lindy’s 2004 Pre-Season All-NCAA Division III Team

FROSTBURG, MD - Frostburg State University senior defensive lineman Kevin Culbert (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) has been named to the Lindy’s Football Magazine 2004 Pre-Season All-Division III Team.

"This is a great honor for Kevin and the Bobcat football program," said FSU head coach Rubin Stevenson, who has led the Red & Black to the Atlantic Central Football Conference title each of the last two years. "Kevin has had an outstanding career to this point, and we’re expecting another great year from him in 2004."

Culbert, a second-team selection, led the Bobcats with 80 tackles, 47 solo tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 10.0 sacks and two forced fumbles in 2003. He added three pass breakups, a forced fumble, a blocked kick and a safety.

Culbert earned College Sports Information Directors of America Division III All-America honorable mention, third-team Football Gazette All-America, first-team All-ECAC, first-team All-ACFC, first-team Football Gazette All-South Region and ACFC Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors for his outstanding year.

During the course of the season, he was selected the ACFC Defensive Player of the Week twice and the ECAC Division III Southwest Defensive Player of the Week twice. He was also named to the National Team of the Week once.

Culbert is one of three ACFC players named to the Lindy’s pre-season squad. Wesley senior defensive back Rocky Myers and Buffalo State defensive lineman Michael Holbok were both first-team selections.

Players from three of FSU’s non-conference opponents in 2004 also had players on the pre-season team.

Senior running back Scott Froelich (Westminster, Pa.), senior offensive lineman Jim Hyland (Waynesburg) and senior defensive back Shaun Murray (Montclair State) were all named to the second team.

Additionally, two of FSU’s opponents are ranked in Lindy’s Division III Top 25 Pre-Season Poll. Waynesburg is 16th, while ACFC newcomer Brockport is 19th. The Bobcats host Brockport September 25 and visit Waynesburg November 6.

"This goes to show the quality players and programs we have within the ACFC as well as the strong competition we play here at Frostburg State," Stevenson added.

FSU opens the 2004 season September 11 when it hosts ACFC opponent Apprentice at Bobcat Stadium at 1:00 pm.
