Cultural Events Main Stage Series Presents H.G. Wells’ “The Invisible Man”

The Frostburg State University Cultural Events Series will present the Aquila Theatre Company’s “The Invisible Man” on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the FSU Performing Arts Drama Theatre.

This classic by H.G. Wells, often considered the father of modern science fiction, has been adapted for the stage by Peter Meineck and is directed by Robert Richmond. The renowned Aquila Theatre Company returns to Frostburg and brings this eerie masterpiece to life.

Set in Victorian England, “The Invisible Man” tells the story of a young scientist named Griffin who makes a startling discovery. Obsessed with the notion of invisibility, he sets out on a quest to put his radical theories into practice, eventually rendering himself completely invisible. But science goes too far and the invisibility proves more a curse than a blessing, pushing Griffin further and further away from society until he becomes a hunted man. But how does one hunt a man who can’t be seen?

This engagement of Aquila Theatre Company of London is a Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Tour, funded by the Foundation in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring Program and includes a 6:30 p.m. pre-performance discussion with Aquila Theatre detailing the challenges of adapting the novel into a stage piece.
